Tigers @ Royals Game #8 April 15th, 2022

that was pretty awesome. So excited for these young players. Can't wait for my favorite (Greene) to come up later this year.

Same here Tom. I love everything about his play, his swing hos play in the outfield, and I have to root for this Riley Greene he has my birthday!
Greene and Torkelson might be the new Kaline and Cash.

Following tonight?s game, the Tigers optioned RHP Elvin Rodriguez to Triple A Toledo.

The Tigers have announced the following roster moves:

*Selected RHP Wily Peralta from Triple A Toledo.
*To make room for Peralta on the 40-man roster, RHP Bryan Garcia has been designated for assignment.

Spencer Torkelson vs Brad Keller
#DetroitRoots

Home Run ????

Exit velo: 111.5 mph
Launch angle: 27 deg
Proj. distance: 432 ft

No doubt about that one ????
That's a dinger in all 30 MLB ballparks!!!!

For context..I have never seen Torkelson hit a ball over 10* EV..the HR was 11.5..thats a scud.

Tarik Skubal saved his changeup for the second time around the order. He's far sharper and the pitch sequencing is much improved compared to his last outing.

Dan Dickerson reported that Javy Baez in trying to stop the Gatorade being poured on him on Opening Day is how he jammed his thumb!

Casey Mize has a sprained MCL, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told reporters.
Mize will undergo more tests on Monday but did say that his arm was already feeling better today.

Pineda has been scratched from tomorrow?s Triple-A start and is expected to pitch for the Tigers during their upcoming series (Apri 19-21) against the Yankees.

DEEPER DISCUSSIONS.
Totally Tigers

This week, we saw the debut of the PitchCom wristbands in MLB.
The catcher wears a wristband with nine buttons that can call for a precise pitch and location. Both the pitcher and catcher have receivers in their cap/helmet for transmitting the info. Different languages can be programmed, too.

There are 9 pitch options. All the catcher has to do is push a button.

This new device was introduced (it is a voluntary option currently) in order to solve 2 concerns. Sign stealing, usually done when there is a runner on 2B ? and speeding up the game. No longer will the catcher and pitcher have to change their sign sequence and when runners get on base, the game will not grind to a halt.

As we saw with the White Sox series, there are still some kinks to work out.

What do you think of this new system? Is it good for baseball?

Today?s blog addresses this dilemma and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!

For this one blog only, you?ve got 6 sentences max to share your thoughts. Of course, you can respond to as many other readers as you want.

TT will supply the ammunition. One thought-provoking question. Several options provided. One hard choice to be selected. One vote.

Ready?

What do you think of the new PitchCom system?

1. Looks promising.

2. Not a good idea.

Detroit Tigers Sunday Notes: The IL woes.
Woodward Sports

Welcome to the Woodward Tigers Sunday Notes, a recap of the past week around the Detroit Tigers and Major League Baseball.

The Tigers did not play Sunday as it was postponed due to weather but the day off comes at the perfect time. Over the weekend, the Tigers had to place Casey Mize and Javier Baez on the IL. To make matters worse, right-hander Matt Manning had to leave early in the 2nd inning due to shoulder discomfort. This gives Detroit two days off before the Yankees come to town on Tuesday.

Here is the current IL list:

Javier Baez
Andrew Chafin
Jose Cisnero
Kyle Funkhouser
Derek Hill
Casey Mize
Jake Rogers
Spencer Turnbull

The good news is that outfielder Derek Hill started a rehab assignment down in Florida for the Lakeland Flying Tigers. Outside of outfielder Austin Meadows, the production from the outfield on offense has been minimal. Akil Baddoo (.087/.125/.261) and Robbie Grossman (.105/.292/.105) are struggling at the plate among the outfield regulars. Hill usually comes off the bench but could see time if he can produce when he returns.

Wily Peralta, who joined the team on Saturday and Michael Pineda will be available this week. Pineda will be in the starting rotation and Peralta will come out of the bullpen. Speaking of the bullpen, they have been stepping the last few games. They are sporting a 2.97 ERA and have the fourth lowest walks per 9 with 2.52.
