Tigers vs. Angels game thread 8/26

Also, Delmon is not at his career averages, he infact, has to go on a bit of a hot streak to get to them.

Which is just a reminder of how bad he was the whole first half.

And in the interest of fairness, Delmon is not the only guy who has sucked, Coke, Boesch, Raburn, Inge, Santiago...all have been dismal, the only difference is nobody id trying to defend them.

Hey man, Inge is my boy. layoff.

So we can't bitch unless there are better options?
Just seems you guys are giving the front office a pass on not having a better option for DH. VMart blew his knee out in January for crying out loud.

What exactly were your expectations of DY? Some of you are acting as if you were expecting MUCH more than what he is. All I'm saying is that he's given us about what he's always done. I'll admit he played very bad for the first month and a half this year, but down the stretch last year, during the playoffs last year and for the last 3+ months he's been at or above his career numbers.

The fact we have no better options does not make Delmon suck any less, you can't make the excuse that because he's the best we have that it's been anywhere close to acceptable, it's not.
If you break a shoelace and then re-lace your shoe with dental floss, it may be the best option you have, but does not change the fact it's horrible at that job.

I could probably cut Delmon a little slack at times, but the honest truth is, I just don't like him. Never have, never will.
The problem is FRONT OFFICE in this instance, not DELMON YOUNG. The "dental floss" didn't choose to be the fix. You just don't get it...

theyre BOTH a problem. delmon young fucking SUCKS and should not be playing or be on the roster, and DD should have found a servicable replacement.

however, we can still be pissed at delmon for sucking, especially because he has been abysmal all year except for a few short hot stretches. i dont care if hes playing kinda maybe near his career numbers for a little while lately because his CAREER numbers also fucking suck. he's a waste of a roster spot and id rather just stick a scarecrow in the batters box to replace him, at least that would probably get more walks.

replace him on the roster with a backup catcher (for emergencies) and DH Laird at this point. He's a better player than 'elmn. might as well get rid of boesch too and replace him with a random AAA player, they'll probably do better.

No. You're trying to change the subject.

Delmon does not suck because of the front office. Delmon sucks because he's a terrible baseball player.

This is not about the 5th hitter, it's about Delmon. He probably should not have been leaned on to bat 5th but he did, and he is terrible.

You should give equal hate towards BB...he has been worse that DY this year.

Boesch sucks at least as much but isnt getting nearly the same amt of playing time and isnt hitting as high in the lineup (anymore). With Dirks back and Berry/Baker to play some in the other corner spot, Boesch isnt a huge issue atm (though I still wish he was gone).

Again though, this is about Delmon.

While I'd like to blame the front office for Delmon, I can't fully do it. Had Victor been healthy, Delmon likely would've been a non-issue. Going out and grabbing a quality OFer on short notice without emptying the bank is probably much harder than we think.

However, this does not excuse the piss-poor farm system.

Right....DY is a below average player....but he has been good in August...he has been the 4th best hitter this month and overall offensively he has been better than BB. DY will be gone next year but we will likely be stuck with BB.

If you had read carefully Tom [or at all], you would have noticed I did point out Boesch, and others....but as I said, nobody is defending Brennan Boesch and saying he's doing okay, or that he's "quietly having a decent season".

That's why Delmon is getting shit on, just like Inge used to when people tried to defend him.

And if you wanna get down to brass tacks, Brennan makes peanuts compared to Delmon, is far superior as a baserunner, if a better fielder [though that's like saying cowshit smell less then pigshit] and has very similar numbers as far as hits, doubles, HR, RBI, SO, and BB's in 60 fewer PA's which translates to about 15 games worth.

So yes, Brennan Boesch is terrible, but factor everything in, and I'd take him over Delmon Young every time.

Again, they have both sucked, and yes Delmon has a slight edge.

But figure that Demlon and his tons of suck are making $6.75MM this year compared to Boesch and his tons of suck who are making $503K.

Good god....again, Delmon didn't trade himself to this team, Delmon doesn't put himself in the 5th spot, Delmon didn't choose not to find a better replacement for VMart.

Again, since he's been a tiger, he helped us down the stretch last year, was one of the few hitters to show up in the postseason(while playing hurt), and aside from the brutal first 30+ games this year has played at or above his career averages.

What exactly were your expectations of Delmon when we got him? Because since he's been in a Tiger uniform he's been exactly the player that he's always been. Just don't get your logic on this debate.

Again, sounds like a front office issue to me. Not a player issue.

I had/have no expectations of Delmon, he's garbage.

#1 overall pick, twice dumped.

Now, to address all that highlighted stuff you keep posting. Irrelevant!

It's not the front offices fault Delmon sucks, it might be that they traded for him, or failed to get a better DH, or bat someone better 5th, but none of that is an excuse for how poorly Delmon has played.

No, it's a comparison between the cost of sucking.

If you look at it from a financial standpoint, Boesch is the better player.

Because while he really sucked, you still got almost the same production for 1/12th the cost.

Why the hell would I care how a grown man spends his money?
