Tigers vs. angels Game Thread Sept. 8

Maybe you're right. Maybe we just flatout suck and got lucky last year. I can accept that more than the people who pretend we are good right now when clearly we are not.

85-90 is a good team, far from sucking.

Including 4 on the road where the Tigers can't win a fucking game. Why is rational thinking that something completely different is going to happen in 20 games that didn't happen in 140? Sounds like insanity to me.

The previous 140 still has us with a winning record. Expecting less sounds like insanity.

I am sure Illitch didn't shell out the money thinking "Hey let's get 85 wins and be 2 games behind the White Sox with 20 games remaining"

He shelled out money looking to get a championship. I'm sure St Louis fans complain the 2006 team won 83 games.

I am just saying how much farther are we gonna go with this "There are 60 scratch that 40 scratch that 20 games remaining everything is fine" attitude? I mean you can only do this for so long.

In both cases each team had 9 full innings to do something, so when it comes down to the last out on a close play, yeah, they really can blame themselves more then the Umps.

Sorry, but I completely disagree, at least certainly in the case of the Yankees game. Bad umpire decisions that finish the game like that have completely negated what happens in the game. I am 100% for implementing technological reviews for quite a few types of plays. You forget about game changing calls like the one at the end of that 19th inning in that Pirates game, or the bad line call on the Twins-Tigers Tie breaker a couple years ago. The other thing that concerns me is that I see no path at all addressing poor umpiring.

Pretend what?

That we're one of the best teams at home this year?

That we're +41 in run differential?

That since the all-star break we are one of the best starting pitching staffs?

We're clearly good. Maybe not as good as we need to be, but let's not go too far.

Not with the amount of money spent. 85-90 is good for a low payroll team.

Even if the payroll was 50 mill, the team would still be an 85-90 win team.

A good team is a good team, payroll is irrelevant.

The real problem with this team is they aren't fun to watch. The play an ugly brand of baseball, are just uninspiring, have a horrible approach at the plate, make a bunch of mental error, and have some very unlikeable players (Young, Boesch).

They're in the middle of a pennant race, and frankly I'm not nearly as excited as I should be.

Anything less than playoffs is a horrible failure. I will not view it as anything else.

You're right. Lets bitch and moan and declare the sky is falling instead of looking at it rationally.

Why is it rationale because that's how you think? Sorry if I am sick of losing and acting like it's cool because there are x games remaining. Win some games and maybe I won't be so pissed.

It's called a playoff race. It happens every year, did you expect we'd have the Central locked up by now?

We can do this until were mathematically eliminated, that;s the game of baseball.

You have to win games for it to be a race. Right now it's a backwards sprint because the White Sox fucking suck too.

I keep saying that too. We are in a pennant race and I pretty much watch every inning of every game. This team is just not fun to watch...which is crazy to say when you have Price, Miggy, JV and even what Max and AJ have been able to do this year. This has not been a very enjoyable season...so far.

The good news is our flaws are obvious now and DD and company will have to address them. They know that half of these guys should to not be starters on an MLB roster and the others should not even be on an MLB roster.

You say this like we do nothing but lose. We're a team with a winning record.

EDIT:

We were 16-10 in July (Best in Central), 16-11 in August(second best in central .5 behind KC), and 3-3 so far in September (.5 game behind Cle).

We are now 1-7 in games not named White Sox the last 8. Sorry if I am not jumping out of my seat.
