Smyly was probably not really prepared mentally to pitch today, since Leyland said publicly that he would avoid using him. He has generally had very good control. Just a general choke by this team. When you load the bases in the first inning, don't blow your chance to set the game up as a blow out. Too bad Delmon doesn't have any brains.

And he's the possible starter Sunday if Max can't go which means it made no sense to bring him in at all with 1 out to get, Leyland and his pen management is just beyond bizarre.

So bases loaded and Dy fails and bounces into a DP..... First and third with one out and JP fails to deliver... Errors and misplayed balls all of the field today. Another pitcher who has a batter 0-2 and fails to throw a waste pitch.Poor relief pitching.. Did I miss anything..

no but in all seriousness normally 2 out of 3 from the hottest team in baseball would be great any other time. I can't get the song September 21 from earth wind and fire out of my head for a week now, maybe something good happens tomorrow I don't know.. start of a 13 game winning streak would be nice.

the thing is though, we are not going to win every game from here on out. And we don't need to, in order to catch Chicago, because they're not going to win them all either. And Oakland was the toughest team left on the schedule, so 2 of 3 is not bad.

Except: the 9th inning aside, this was a winnable ballgame that poor defense and fundamental execution let slip through our fingers.

It was not a "must win" game, but mistakes like failing to hit the cutoff man with a runner on 3rd, and a simple throw from second to first, and a ball hit right at a gold glove centerfielder are completely unacceptable when you're trying to make up a 2 game disadvantage.

And I'm still an optimist, so I'll say this, the Sux gotta face the rays for 4 games coming up, if we make a move, (and we can) that will be the time to do it.

Does not change the fact that they're a dangerous team with good pitching.

If they played in the Central they might be the ones on top.

Thanks Royals... I think. Not looking forward to playing those games with the Royals, they look better than the White Sox and Tigers lately.

Well there ya have it, Hosmer walk off in the 9th KC pulls it out 4-3 Chicago has graciously extended the hope for another day, another series they go out for 3 with CA while we stay home for Minn, Deduno held us in check last time, RP not getting beyond 5 lately.

The Tigers need a lot of help. I think it helps that the Sox are playing 3 vs the Angels and 4 vs TB. We need both teams to play great and stay in the WC hunt. The Tigers NEED to sweep MN this weekend and hope that at the end of the weekend they are even or only one back.
