Get StartedGiven some of the pitchers we've made look good this season, part of me is really worried we won't be able to muster more than 1 or 2 off Lynn...
Still, the best shot for a 3-game winning streak we've had in quite a while...
I shall now go find a crow to eat...
One thing stat wise that I have never understood. Why is it that when a player hits a flyball for a sac fly he isn't charged with an at bat, but when he grounds out to the right side and gets the runner in from 3rd he is charged an at bat. Same end result.
Probably the same reason a pitcher who makes a throwing error isn't charged with the run even though he's the one that jacked it up. It's baseball and some of this stuff is just stupid.
Alex Avila singles to CF in his 2nd plate appearance tonight for the Mudhens.
Nope. It has everything to do with the fielder having an option. On a sac fly, the fielder has no other option. He cannot get to the ball earlier and he already made the out. There is NOTHING he can do about the end result of the runner scoring.
On a ground out....though it may be a bad option, the IF always has the OPTION to throw home.....therefor making it more of a fielders choice.
So the hitter gets credited with an at bat in the case where he hits it on the ground. Same thing with a sac bunt and a grounder to the right side that just moves a guy.
