Tigers vs. cardinals Game Thread June 19

Austin Jackson is hitting .370 (37x100) with 10 doubles, a triple, four home runs and 24 RBI over his last 27 games.

Given some of the pitchers we've made look good this season, part of me is really worried we won't be able to muster more than 1 or 2 off Lynn...

Still, the best shot for a 3-game winning streak we've had in quite a while...

I shall now go find a crow to eat...

Nice job, not only with the run support, but Lynn has thrown 50 pitches after 2.

One thing stat wise that I have never understood. Why is it that when a player hits a flyball for a sac fly he isn't charged with an at bat, but when he grounds out to the right side and gets the runner in from 3rd he is charged an at bat. Same end result.

Verlander with 28 pitches in 2 2/3 innings facing deslcazlo looks like the cards are swinging early in the count.

Probably the same reason a pitcher who makes a throwing error isn't charged with the run even though he's the one that jacked it up. It's baseball and some of this stuff is just stupid.

Nice play little buddy...

Verlander 33 pitches,

Tigers lead 4 - 0.

Alex Avila singles to CF in his 2nd plate appearance tonight for the Mudhens.

Young keeps chasing that crap low and away every at bat.

Boesch hacks,

lynn with 62 pitches,

Tigers lead 4 - 0.

Great play and strong throw from behind third by Miguel,

Verlander with 46 pitches,

Tigers lead 4 - 0.

Nope. It has everything to do with the fielder having an option. On a sac fly, the fielder has no other option. He cannot get to the ball earlier and he already made the out. There is NOTHING he can do about the end result of the runner scoring.

On a ground out....though it may be a bad option, the IF always has the OPTION to throw home.....therefor making it more of a fielders choice.

So the hitter gets credited with an at bat in the case where he hits it on the ground. Same thing with a sac bunt and a grounder to the right side that just moves a guy.

Thanks...good explanation.
