I've seen people mention 1st pitch swinging and it "starts with the big guys" - someone said that last night. Miguel 31 PA first pitch swinging this season, .400 .419 .767 1.186. Impressive so Miguel can swing anytime he damn well wants ;-)

He tends to get a little over aggressive at times but all in all yes he can swing whenever he damn well pleases!

The simple fact is often times the best pitch to hit is the first one.

Every pitcher wants to start off 0-1 in the count, not 1-0, so you usually get some kind of plain vanilla pitch, not always, but usually.

So in many cases swinging at the first pitch can be a good thing, especially for guys like Cabrera who are great hitters.

But in many cases it's also bad, how many times have we given the opposing pitcher a 6-8 pitch inning because we go up and hack right away? and then have a pitcher have such a low pitch count that we actually help their team out by resting their bullpen.

All that said, I'd still rather everyone, Cabrera included try to make their pitchers work at least as hard as ours have to.

And Delmon is just a joke, it's okay to swing at the first one once in a while, but 90% of the time is just dumb, nobody throws him a decent first pitch now because they know he'll go after it even if it's junk.

Looked like Cabrera has some sort of wrap on his right hand/thumb in the dugout??

Boesch swinging at 3 pitches out of the k zone, 1 and 2, make it 4, er I mean 5 and k's,

Cabrera wearing his batting gloves so the black velcro wrap is under it or off, 2 and 2, fouled back, swings and misses a slider by a foot,

garza strikes out the side with 20 pitches.
