just throwing the ball so far off the plate that it is "guaranteed" to be a waste pitch isn't smart...especially with a man on base. How pissed would you be if he threw it in the dirt and the runner advanced?

I always think that if a pitcher has a guy 0-2, don't waste a pitch, throw something you think you can get him out on. A pitch that might create weak contact or a strikeout

This 1 million percent!!! I hate the waste pitch meltdown so much that I rarely post in game threads anymore.

Trick is not to waste it too much outside. The reason it gets mentioned here so much is because Tigers pitchers have been know for that.

My main hope is that the new staff gets these guys to trust their stuff more. Especially the starters. Too many times the starter would be over 70 pitches in 3 or 4 innings.
