Tigers vs. Indians April 1, 2021 Game 1

One disappointment is the strikeouts. Though I liked what Grossman was doing.

The did have over 1000 in '11 playoffs though not sure how much of that was game.

those playoff games had a ton of posts.

Home openers are usually pretty popular but fewer posts because they are always day games.

games in the middle of the summer, when they already suck, we might get a few pages.

at least it's not like the Pistons or Wings where most of the games there is just one post...bob when he starts the game thread and when he changes it to include the score/result. 9 of the last 16 piston game threads have 0 posts. :lmao:

Bieber lead the league in K's last year and was 3rd in 2019...no shame in 12Ks

Some of those k's he wasn't close to the plate. Like that first Ramos k. And they k'd twice more after Bieber.

My main hope is that the new staff gets these guys to trust their stuff more. Especially the starters. Too many times the starter would be over 70 pitches in 3 or 4 innings.

The trick is is to make sure you don?t give up a 0-2 hit. Like Byco says a waste pitch is changing the batters eye levels. We can all agree to disagree but Soto had that last batter
0-2 and he fouled 3 of the same pitches off and final Soto threw a high pitch elevated taken for a ball and final comes back in for the easy pop out on the next pitch. Waste pitches can and do work.

There just hasnt been much to discuss of late lol. Getting exciting that the young pitchers are coming of age. This lineup is still going to be very frustrating. Hopefully they take the lock off the wallet to buy some offense in the next year or two

The Pistons are just meh. Weaver at least seems to have a vision..but Hayes was a shitty pick imo. How about we avoid Euro projects from now on? Sekou is terrible. Bey and stewart seem peomising.

Many of the heavy posters of those early 2010's seasons were part of the mass exodus around 2013.

the problem with this assessment is I don't believe you even know if that was the plan. The batter fouled 3 pitches off before your "waste pitch".

I wasn't able to watch the game because I'm working, but watching the gamecast, it was a bit confusing. He had him 0-2 and he threw 4 pitches that were on the edge of the strikezone or just out of it. 2 low, one inside, one high and one across the plate but low (that was the out)

There were no waste pitches...he was just pitching, trying to get the guy out. The funny thing is (not sure if it's true because I wasn't watching) but gamecast has pitch #6 (the ball that was high) as a sinker. They usually get the pitches correct since they see how the catcher is set up, etc. Maybe that high pitch was just a really bad pitch??

Doumbouya is such a bust. Sadly Hayes injury will set him way back. initially I was excited about him but more and more I am worry he could be a bust also. Bey and Stewart could be pieces on a playoff bench. I really liked the Bey pick. Stewart is such a hard working. Like them both.

It was high and a waste pitch and it worked. Next pitch was low and toward the outside and batter popped out to short rf and schoop made a nice easy play. Soto isn’t Rivera. Using every pitch including wasting a pitch on 0-2 is ok. Btw is it really a waste pitch or just getting the batter to think something else is coming. When you are nahead 0-2 why would a pitcher ever give in to the batter ?

Miguel Cabrera hit career home run No. 488, now five shy of tying Lou Gehrig and Fred McGriff (493) for 28th place in MLB history. It's also his third career Opening Day homer and first since 2008.
The homer was also the 350th for Cabrera in a Tigers uniform, and he joins
Al Kaline as the only Detroit players to have 350-or-more homers and 2,000-or-more hits.

Miguel Cabrera is the 3rd player to hit 350 HR with the Tigers organization.
He joins Al Kaline (399) and Norm Cash (373) who had 1,793 hits with the Tigers.
