Tigers vs. Indians Game Thread - 7/24

Quintin Berry's average for the month of July is down to .217

Delmon, Boesch, and Infante, the Tigers might have the most impatient trio of hitters in MLB.

We need some more patience, Jimenez is starting to get a little wild and we could draw several walks if we stopped swinging at the 1st pitch near the zone.

Hence why Jim needs to mange and get us a run last inning.. You bunt Jackson over to third with a struggling hitter and get a positive outcome and Miguel's grounder gets him home..

Except Berry has failed at like his last 4 bunt attempts....

Fister gotta cover 3rd on the rundown, Fielder bailed your ass out.

And there lies the rub when people say just bunt. We always assume everyone can do it and most guys absolutely suck at it.

This is one of the more difficult tasks to achieve in baseball. Couple that with the fact that most guys don't practice bunt attempts all that often and the results are usually frustrating.

Well, myself I don't blame Jim and say he didn't manufacture the run, you got these guys on base you have to expect the 2 big guys to bring them home.

I would never, ever, want an extra out in front of my 3 and 4 hitters if possible.

Except guys like Berry and Ajax should, a good bunt is a hell of a weapon with the speed those guys have.

the times Leyland has called on Berry to bunt and he failed are almost inexcusable.

Tigers hit .287 vs. Ubaldo in 2011, were hitting .213 vs. Ubaldo coming into tonight.

Ubaldo vs. Tigers in 2011: 2-3, 6.35 ERA, 33H in 28 IP, 1.588 WHIP;
Ubaldo vs. Tigers in '12 (coming in): 2-0, 10H in 12.2 IP, 1.342 WHIP.

Fister with 57 pitches.

I think speed guys like those two should work on bunting at least 30% of the time in BP.
