this lineup looks a bit f'd up.
Leyland says Betemit is not ready.

Wilson Betemit's health still uncertain as Detroit Tigers open final regular-season series.
DETROIT -- Wilson Betemit was expected to play third base for the Detroit Tigers' 7:05 p.m. opener of the final regular-season series tonight, against the Cleveland Indians, but still has not healed sufficiently from a strained left knee.
Manager Jim Leyland said he is "worried" about Betemit's availability for the remainder of this series, which would make the player iffy for the American League Division Series, which is scheduled to begin Friday night against an opponent to be determined, at a site to be determined.
If the rain stays away in Detroit, where the weather cleared enough to allow on-field batting practice, the Tigers not only have their starting pitching rotation set the way they want it, but also are making appropriate tweaks to their bullpen. Al Alburquerque will not pitch tonight, Leyland said. The Tigers also would like to give Jose Valverde the regular-season finale off on Wednesday night, although that plan could change if the Tigers still are battling for home-field advantage in the ALDS.

if we assume Betemit can't go for the ALDS, the bench basically has to be Kelly, Ramon, Dirks, Worth and Santos.
and Leyland says Guillen is likely out of the ALDS.
"Very unlikely he'll be ready for the first round."
"That doesn't mean he couldn't be added at a later date".

Talked with Betemit, who said left knee is "so-so." Felt good until he tried to push off leg today. Getting checked out by doctors here.
Guillen taking BP, which is a good bit of progress. He's hoping to do some light running today, to test strained right calf.
Jason Beck

I heard they were taking 14 position players and 11 pitchers. So plenty of bats but I still want Betemit in there.

Since 8/4 - basically the trade deadline, Tigers bullpen has 2.30 ERA, nearly a strikeout per inning, and .205 BAA

Mitch[/color]]Why does Fister get the worse lineups. Jeez.

Ground ball pitcher and probably the best defensive infield they can throw out there....although Inge may be a little better than Kelly.

And, for the record, for the 100th time, Miguel Cabrera says he feels fine after "lightheadedness" yesterday.

Good thing, he has been mashing lately and the Tigers will need him to be a monster if they are going to do anything in the playoffs.

How is trading Peralta for Rhymes the best infield defense?

Santiago is our best option at 2b, and Peralta at SS.

The middle is now weaker then when it's Peralta - Santiago.

Rhymes is not a good fielder, better than Raburn, but that's not saying much.

And I don't think Inge is better than Kelly, maybe a stronger arm, when he decides to throw to the right base, or get it close to Cabrera's glove.

We need this one tonight boys. Hope Fister can shut these jackasses down.

Fister 1st inning,

fukudome flys to Young,

krapnis called out on strikes with the cut fastball that tails back on the inside corner,

acabrera soft one hop to Rhymes,

Fister with 11 pitches and lots of good movement on them.

I think the range of this infield is WAY better than the every day lineup. Even though Santiago doesn't play SS every day I think he is better defensively than Peralta. Peralta is not a good defensive SS. He is kind of like Jeter.....he will make the play if it is hit right at him.

Tigers 1st inning,

Rhymes grounds out to second,

Kelly grounds to first,

Young out on strikes,

indians pitcher with 10 pitches.

My wishlist for the next 3 games.
1. Tigers win hfa in 1st round.
2. JV wins the pitching triple crown.
3. Miggy wins the batting title.

Really made him work that inning.

It will be tough but I gotta root for the Angels tonight. Beating the Rangers for hfa I think will be key if the Tigers want to make a run.

Fister 2nd inning,

roidshafner flys to Dirks,

ultimategoonduncan long at bat strikes out swinging,

chisenhall grounds to Rhymes,

Fister with 28 pitches.
