Tigers vs. phillies Game Thread July 28

Maybe it's carryover from Fairchild running Putkonen against the White Sox a few weeks ago.

As far back as the play-by-play info goes for STATS MLB (1974), the Tigers have never had 12 at-bats with the bases loaded, until today.

If he responds, he'll get fined and/or suspended because MLB has no fucking balls when it comes to disciplining awful umpires but flips a shit any time a player or manager says something remotely unkind about them, regardless of whether its true or not. I bet Jim would have loved to say "Chad Fairchild is a blind douchebag", but the resulting suspension and fine just wouldnt be worth it for him.

Im all for hitting him next time he's the HP ump for us.

It's not a suspension he's worried about. In general it's not a good idea to show up the umpires or call them out after a game, you don't want guys who have a large part in deciding the outcome of ballgames holding a grudge against you.

It's easy as fans to wonder why Leyland didn't go into an expletive laden rant about how shitty the umpires and Fairchild in particular are, but in his position you have to look big picture.

It was a bullshit call, and Leyland could be seen on TV yelling "BULLSHIT, BULLSHIT, BULLSHIT" at the umpires, but we don't want it carrying over into the next series.

And while we (as fans) might all love to see an "oops" type crossup and see Fairchild drilled, it would never happen, because that's bush-league shit and the Tigers are better than that.

Had a good time at the game today. Nice to see the Tigers come back from 3 down and take advantage a Philly error-ridden inning, turning it into a blowout. The only downside is that it fucked up my scorecard.

The good umpires are like the Pacific Ocean: They have no memories. Too many of them do bring the baggage with them, though. And all the talk of drilling an Chad in the chimes is mere steam-blowing on my part, anyway. It's theraputic. I hope that's implied. I know that I wrote everything in quotes for that reason. The aftermath of such an act would not be pretty. Still ... I hope that Fairchild gets a lecture from Marsh or Torre that reminds Fairchild that he's not the attraction.

Rod Allen's comment of "Oh, Chad Fairchild, we did not come here to watch you today," was perfectly timed and expressed with a subtlety that I did not expect from him.

I watched Miggy's AB on MLB.com. Some of these umps need to just STFU! I do understand that the players aren't supposed to argue balls and strikes but it really looked like both of those pitches were clearly balls.

Here's the thing. Pitch FX had them as strikes, but they looked out of the zone. And Pitch Fx does not publish its data in real time anymore like it used to.

Makes me wonder if even Pitch Fx is framing controversial pitches these days, bc those two pitches to Cabrera indeed looked like they were wide right.

IMO the first one was high and outside, the second caught the insider corner, Miggy was upset over the first pitch and I don't blame him, I don't care what Fx says the first one was clearly a ball IMO.

The pitchfx stuff at brooksbaseball is all taken from mlb gameday strike zones, and is not official.

Same with the foxtrax box, there is just now ay to accurately use an automated strike zone, since it's different with each batter and often in the same AB.

The only way to tell is to see if the ball if over the plate (left-right) and between the batters kneecap and the midway point between the top of the uniform pants and the shoulders (often the bottom of the leading elbow is used) and changes depending on stance.

All gameday and foxtrax use a generalized strike zone plot.

Are you watching or jusy following online? Kelly is hitting 2nd, Miggy was ejected after 2 pitches and Prince...well Prince has looked like Prince lately.

Sorry for the no answer. I had an hour to kill while watching the game, and I had to leave after the post. I watched, saw the ejection. Thought it was crap like everyone else, but doesn't change bases loaded and 0 outs. The Tigers seem to find their share of ways to not score in this situation quite often. Not that this one was all their fault - they were screwed out of a Cabrera at bat. Any one of the actual hitters that came to the plate could have hit it somewhere allowing a run to score. That is my point. That OK?
