Tigers vs. pirates Game Thread May 19

I don't even know what to say at this point.

After 40 games last year, we were trailing Cleveland by 3.5 games. Now we trail by 4. Of course last year, we were on a 7 game winning streak....and then we lost the next 5 games (including a series to the Pirates).

I'll still bet a large sum of money that we win this division.

But man, right now this team is just frustrating.

Have way too many players slumping, way too many easy outs in the lineup.

i think if nothing with the offense changes in the next few weeks, lloyd needs to get axed, no matter how much leyland likes him.

This season has been funny so far, and not just for us.

NYY and BOS on the bottom in the ALE, with BAL on top?

Dbacks, Phillies, angels, and Tigers all under .500?

But as the season goes on and get into the mid-late summer you will see the men separated from the boys.

Things will work out in the end, but the road might be pretty bumpy getting there.

some of leyland's postgame comments:

"We had Burnett on the ropes. We let him off the ropes the one inning (2nd) when we loaded the bases. A big hit there could be a killer, but we didn’t get it. And that’s happened to us too many times this year."

no shit sherlock, and guess who didnt come up with a big hit in that situation? your epically retarded choice for the leadoff hitter. fuck you, smokes. fuck the offense too. this is beyond ridiculous and pathetic now and well into inexcusable territory. it was pretty damn stupid to actually pitch to mccutchen as well (and if we ARE going to pitch to him, which is stupid, smyly needs to make better pitches than he did).

As Johnny2x pointed out earlier in the thread, the Tigers are dead last in the AL hitting like .150 with the bases loaded. It's not just Kelly. It's everyone. So far this season we've struggled to get big hits in those situations. We have too many guys slumping...and that's the big issue...not that so and so is batting in this spot in the order. Dirks has been great this month...except when the bases were loaded and then he's failed. Dirks is 0-3 this season and Kelly is 1-2. Guys just have to start producing.

Not that I personally would've been able to hit anything later in the at-bat...but with the count 1-2 Hanrahan had just climbed the ladder with a fastball and I said "he's going to throw you a slider out of the zone low, Prince, lay off..." aaaaand he flails at it...

The BA and other numbers have been decent but Prince has not been very clutch this year.

Is there a stat about BA with RISP and less than one out?

Not just with the bases loaded...Tigers have been just BAD, it seems, in good scoring opportunity situations....

We're hitting .148 w/ bases loaded (2nd to last in all of baseball behind St. Louis who has been good this year, but .143 w/ em loaded).

With a runner at 2nd, we're htting .311 (4th best in baseball).

With a runner at 2nd and 3rd, we're hitting .269 (11th best in baseball).

With a runner at 3rd, we're hitting .200 (25th - so only 5 teams are worse).

With runners in scoring position, we're hitting .277 (6th best in baseball).

With runners in scoring position and 2 outs, we're hitting .226 (19th best in baseball - so not good).

With a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs, we're hitting .268 (21st best in baseball - so not good).
