Tigers announce Lou Whitaker first pitch before Game 5. And The Four Tops to sing the National Anthem.
Leyland: "I'm tired. I feel great, but I'm tired. But I've got some spare energy. I go from decaf to regular about now".
Leyland on Tigers being beat up: "You guys (the media) are probably beat up, too. ... I hope you're getting overtime".
More from Tigers manager Leyland on JV: "I think he wants to pitch. I admire that. He wants the ball. I admire that. But when I had a meeting with my coaches, we sat down and talked, we truly believed that this is the best way to go, because we think this is the best thing for Justin Verlander and, in turn, that means it's the best thing for the team".
Leyland on ALCS momentum: "If we're fortunate enough to win the game today, it's evened up. If we're not, we're down 2".
Leyland just told the media that Victor Martinez 'Will play'.
Verlander did push to pitch in Game 4. Told Leyland he'd prepare just in case. But conceded he, and Tigers have faith in Leyland's decision-making.
Leyland says he thinks Verlander is tired. Verlander says he's fine. This difference of opinion is not breaking news.

Good news, b/c obviously VMart woke up and discovered that yes, he was indeed still alive this morning.

That quote from last night is getting 'alot' of air time.
Leyland said Martinez looks like a go for today's game. Delmon Young is questionable.

Some guys are going to tough it out it looks like.... Go tigers!!!

Wonder why young at 5? That's okay he's in. I hope him and Mart have big games.

leftys are hitting better than righties against Harrison, so where's Kelly?

Huge game today, I love Miggy batting in the 3 hole. Hope VMart and DY are able to contribute. If DY doesn't look good early I would bring in Kelly. The ball will find him in the outfield and if he isn't healthy that really could hurt. We need a huge game from Rick. The reliable guys in the bullpen have already been stretched too far. I disagreed with using both Benoit and Valverde last night and still disagree with it today.

Couldn't agree more.

Fewer potential ABs in the 5-spot; need a 100%-healthy player in the three-spot.

Tigers hitters vs. harrison :
Jackson 5 for 10,
Raburn 8 for 12,
Cabrera 6 for 15,
Martinez 1 for 4,
Young 2 for 9,
Avila 4 for 4
Peralta 2 for 7,
Santiago 0 for 4,
Inge 3 for 7,

Victor Martinez woke up alive Wednesday morning, rolled out of the bed and rolled back into the Tigers lineup for Game 4 of the American League Championship Series. So, apparently, did Delmon Young.

As a result, the Tigers are about as close to full strength in their lineup as they can be for what shapes up as a critical swing game in this series, which took a turn with Detroit

looks like the tigers do well off him

Avila is batting too high in the lineup. He looks completely lost at the plate right now. I think the rediculous number of games he caught this year is finally catching up with him. I know it is hard to calculate what he is giving this team defensively and with how he handles the pitchers but I think he needs a day off. If the Tigers win today, I would sit him tomorrow so he would get 2 consecutive days off heading back to Texas. I know the types of aches and pains a catcher develops over a 162 game season won't go away in 2 days but maybe he can get his head where it needs to be. I don't usually put a lot of stock into body language but he really looks like he is conceding the out when he is at the plate. Hope he goes 4 for 4 with 2 HRs today and I look like a jackass. That would be awesome.

Jose Valverde has pitched three straight days five other times this year. Last time was from Jul 6-8, he threw 68 pitches, 3 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts, 5 GB, Says he's ready if needed.

Tigers need to sweep at home.. I don't think they win two in Texas..

Agreed, if Porcello can pitch well I think the Tigers bats have finally come off the rack. We win today and you have to like our chances with JV going tomorrow. It seems like he is due for a really good outing. Then head to Texas and you just need 1 win with Max and Doug pitching. If we got to that point I really like our chances. On the other hand, lose today and our chances really suck.
