Yeah I don't have an issue with it. I think it's laughable that a guy can't pitch 2 days in a row because he threw 25 or 30 pitches the day before. 25 years ago, you wouldn't even blink twice at bringing a guy in the next day.

To squeeze the middle doesn't mean stand completely behind the pitcher. Take a few steps that way and have the momentum to go get it if it's a bad throw. Not to much to ask at any level of baseball.

That's pointless.

If you're paying attention you will get to the ball every time and the runner would never advance, whether you squeeze the middle or not.

Unless Leyland said specifically Benoit and Valverde were unavailable, I'd expect to see them both in a 1 run game.

AFAIK, he only said Below was unavailable, and Balester would not pitch if he could help it.

So far so good with the Benoit move. One dout and 1-2 count, foul, high ball, missed outside, come on get this guy. Foul, ok,ok next one COL a walk afte an0-2 count!!! Gotta go to my Brithday Dinner as Coke takes over this is going to run into some long 8th and 9 th innings Tigers need to get this one!
