It?s hard to watch. Cabrera has been so good for so long......and it?s over. Has been for a while, but the Tigers owed a couple seasons to see if they could get anything out of their massive investment.

It?s time to let him go. That?s painful for me to say. I love Miggy. He plays the game the way it should be played. For fun. But he is tarnishing his own career at this point. Pay that man his money and let him get out with some integrity.

Cisnero in bottom 8th.

Gives up a leadoff homer to left by hernandez...11-7.

barnes remains in as closer for the non-save top 9th.

Schoop fouls out to 1B.

Grossman Ks swinging....#13.

Ramos flys to right...ballgame.

Tigers lose their 6th in a row 11-7, and fall to 8-22.

Strikeout 13x again....negative Rdiff climbs to -66

Tigers bats finally wake up a bit from their comas, but not all do...cough..Migwell..cough..A DH who can't H..used to think that he could reach 500+ homers this season @ least...but not so sure now.

But their pitching can't contain the red sox...so give up another double-digit score.

THE THREE C?S. This is a Must Read.
Totally Tigers

Some people will say ?Relax, it?s only been a month.? But you know what, dear readers, this team is just one huge whopping mess. Alarmingly so.

So much so that even a significant improvement will still probably keep them in the cellar.

We?re seeing more and more stats from this current season that are aligning with the numbers and pace of the 2003 team. And the ?62 Mets. Stats that are so far removed from those of the rest of MLB. Stats like run differentials in which the Tigers currently (through Monday) sit at ? 62 runs with the next closest team at ? 26. That?s how bad it is.

The Tigers were expected to be near the bottom again this year, generally rank around #28 and with losses ranging from the high 80?s to low-mid ?90?s. ?Marginally improved? is how most analysts were describing the team?s 2021 season.

But it doesn?t look anything like the prognosis now, does it? It really does appear this team is regressing (outside of the starting rotation).

And the drip of national stories are being written about how puzzling this rebuild continues to grow in frequency. Analysts wondering what Detroit?s strategy is. TV and radio stories questioning why the Tigers are the only MLB team to purposely go without a regular first baseman if they are indeed rebuilding.

The latest story compares the Tigers? 5-6 year rebuild (and counting) with the Giants who just completed theirs in a little over 3 years under the guidance of Farhan Zaidi. A team that didn?t depend upon tanking or depending upon draft pick order but instead had 6 different strategies for building, strengthening and deepening their roster. And it never got really ugly for them through the entire process.

A. J. Hinch talks about getting players from Toledo to help. But does that seem to be a legitimate course of action?

Can Al Avila suddenly make a good decision ? or trade ? to bolster the roster?

Will Chris Ilitch decide to open his wallet and get the team what it needs?

No, no and no.

Why?

It?s because of the three C?s. Let?s explore??.

if he had any integrity, he would retire and tell the Tigers to keep 1/2 of what he is owed.

The Tigers still owe him $96M.

good article.

That said, I guess C Illich is a good owner if the goal of a business is to make money. That will most likely end at some point in time because they will lose so many fans. My guess is they already know that, and that is part of their "long term plan". At that point, they will either: A. sell the team; or B. Start spending just enough to compete for the division.

If I were a gambling man, I think they are going with plan B. Selling the team when they are terrible isn't a good business decision.

Wasn't aware of the Illitch gambling connection until I read that piece, which just angers me even more...in fact one hell of a lot more. So that also answers what this "Bally" change from FSD was all about.

Fuck this sorry-ass franchise...I won't spend a thin dime on merch or attendance until or if this cravenly corrupt family sells it!! Same goes for their pizza empire!! No "Little Caesars" here!!

Gambling is something that I have intentionally avoided doing my entire adult life...I know ppl who have squandered tens if not hundreds of thousands on it. I have been in a casino just once. I even rarely have bought MI lottery tix ever since it began here in 1974.

Chris Ilitch mulls over the negative press regarding the Tigers and his gambling interests.

INT: Chris Ilitch?s Office DAY

(Ambient sounds of the ballpark filter through his office) Ilitch sits behind his desk, petting a Tiger Cub.

Al Avila nervously sits in a chair opposite; Ilitch is clearly displeased. The desk forms an imposing barrier.

AVILA: I believe in baseball. Baseball has made my fortune. I have a son, who I raised to be a ball player. For a while, he was successful, with this organization, but he took a lot of foul balls off his mask and he became ineffective against left-handed pitching. Then he was signed ... BY THE WHITE SOX. (Avila breaks down, Ilitch motions for David Chadd to get him a drink)

AVILA: Then he bounced around the league ... he even came back home for a season, then was banished to Arizona, and now he languishes in Washington ... WHERE HE?S APPEARED IN ONLY SIX GAMES. But he?s kept his honor and he?s not expressed his dissatisfaction to the media ... not a single Tweet or Snap.

I went to the Nationals? front office, and they threatened to DFA him that very day! And that bastard GM ... Rizzo ... he SMILED at me!

ILITCH: Why did you go to Rizzo? Why didn?t you come to me first?

AVILA: What do you want of me? But do what I beg you to do.

ILITCH: What is that?

(AVILA GETS UP, AND WHISPERS INTO ILITCH?S EAR)

ILITCH: That I cannot do.

AVILA: I?ll take a pay cut. I?ll trade Cabrera and or renegotiate his contract. I?ll deliver pizzas.

ILITCH: Avila, Avila, what have I ever done to make you treat me so disrespectfully? If you?d have come to me first, with a solid business proposition, then your boy would be wearing the Olde English D this very day. But you don?t ask with analytic support, you don?t offer ROI numbers, you don?t even think to call me Mr. Ilitch. You come into my office and ask me to sign your son to the Tigers for money ? if you?d have been an effective GM and spent what I gave you wisely, we?d not be the laughingstock of the league, and the other GM would fear you.

AVILA: Please ?- Mr. Ilitch?

ILITCH: Good. Someday, and that day may never come, I may ask you to let some good young players explore free agency. Until that day, accept this favor as a gift on the anniversary of the Tigers? hiring of Sparky Anderson.

AVILA LEAVES

ILITCH: (To Chadd) ... Give this job to Littlefield. I want a reliable contract; a contract that does not get carried away. No bonuses, no incentives. I mean, this player is of little use to us, in spite of what this ... office manager says ... but at least he?s cheap.

CHADD: We have to release someone if this catcher is on the 25-man roster.

ILITCH: Text Hinch. We need him now.
