Gameday from mlb.com

Detroit Tigers left-hander Drew Smyly made his debut last Thursday in front of a home crowd that was attended by 20 close friends and family members.
He'll make his second career start Tuesday on the road, but it still might have a similar home feel to it.
Born in Maumelle, Ark., Smyly will start Tuesday for the Tigers against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. It’s about three-hour drive from the University of Arkansas, the college Smyly attended.
“It’s a short trip from where I went to school,” Smyly said. “I’ll have a good amount of people that will be driving up for it.”
Smyly made his debut last Thursday, allowing one run, four hits and three walks in the Tigers' 7-2 victory over Tampa Bay.
He survived a shaky first inning, giving up two walks and a single to his first three batters, but escaped without giving up damage. He forced his own exit after throwing 90 pitches through four-plus innings and left without a win in reach.
The Royals (3-7) are trying to avoid their first six-game skid since June 18-24. The Tigers won the series opener Monday against the Royals, 3-2, on the heels of Justin Verlander's complete game.
The Tigers have won 11 of the last 16 games against the Royals and are 36-19 at Kauffman Stadium since Jim Leyland took over as manager.
Andy Dirks has been tabbed Monday's designated hitter, despite a left-hander slated to start. Of the six games Dirks has appeared in this season, he’s started five as the club’s DH.
Ramon Santiago will start at shortstop and spell Jhonny Peralta, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles Monday. Peralta is 2-for-18 with four strikeouts in his career against Chen.
Ryan Raburn -- who is in the midst of an early-season slump -- will start at second. He's hitting 0.65 with no extra-base hits in 32 at-bats.
Austin Jackson will look to extend his American League-leading .511 on-base percentage after reaching base safely in every game this season.
Reminder: Tonight’s game is on FOX Sports Detroit-plus because a scheduling conflict with the Detroit Red Wings-Nashville Predators playoff game.

Inge must be fuming that after hitting a dinger he has to sit.

Jhonny getting a day off, makes sense, he was the only guy really hitting the royals yesterday, so lets replace him with Santiago.

SMH

He probably is, but he is 1 for 23 career vs. chen.

He wonders what else he has to do to prove himself....

He hit a home run yesterday, come on people....

Though, after seeing it, no other pitcher will ever throw him a fastball again.

I can't believe I am saying this... I would rather Inge be playing over Rugburn at second...I have seen BI once at second (Yesterday) and he is 1000 times better at second then RR.. But I guess a 1-23 trumps a yesterday Homer even if it is a LHP.. I guess RR's 2 for 30 means nothing to Smokes..

1000 times better?

Seriously, if you don't like Raburn, fine. But he has not made any mistakes at 2nd base, and has made a couple of pretty good plays. Inge has played 9 innings at 2B.

Inge is most likely better as a fielder, but 1000 times better....whatever.

I don't mean to harp but didn't you suggest KBurn is vastly superior to DY in LF? Not sure how Vastly Superior equates to 1000 times better but still..

He is vastly superior to Young, but you can at least make a comparison. They both play the position.

Raburn has had 17 chances at 2B, he also has 7 PO's and 10 Assists.

Inge has had 4 chances, 1 PO, and 3 Assists.

Where do you get any data suggesting Inge is 1000 times better? You could use Raburn from last year, but then you still have 0 data on Inge.

Rag Raburn for his missing bat, but his glove has so far been fine. *knocks on wood*

You did see that circus performance out in right the other day, eh? Wind, smind -- a monkey could have caught that.

4 Lefty Hitters for Tigers vs. LHP?
Said Leyland: "If I didn?t do what my gut told me, I'd just be pacifying the public as far as being 2nd-guessed.?

Detroit Tigers' Jim Leyland says he refuses to take easy way out on lineup decisions.

BB can hit lefties, never concerned with him against Lefties, but the others.. hmmm.. Can't believe I'm saying this one but I'd almost rather see Laird catching tonight Alex still looked a bit sore and uncomfortable yesterday.

But hey Jimmy knows best

BB over .320 against LHP. Pretty amazing..

And Prince is .292 career vs. LH starters.

Avila .307 Career vs. LH starters.

Dirks is the only one I don't understand.

But all 3 of our LH batters that start most games can hit lefties well.

Radio interview with Leyland, he just said both Peralta and Inge not happy they are being sat tonight. But Leyland said he wont second guess his gut, and his gut says this is the best lineup vs. Chen.

We'll see.

Shit!

I was sure Miggy would break his streak right away against Chen, he owns this guy.
