GAME NOTES

-- Rick Porcello is 3-0 with a 2.70 ERA in his past four starts at Target Field, but he has struggled throughout his career in April with a 5-9 record and a 6.13 ERA -- his highest of any month.

-- Miguel Cabrera recorded a pair of two-out RBI singles Wednesday and is now hitting .377 with 27 RBIs in his last 17 games against Minnesota. He has three RBIs in two games.

-- Don Kelly will get his first start this season, batting sixth and spelling Andy Dirks in left field. Dirks and Prince Fielder are the only Tigers to have hit home runs off Twins starter Mike Pelfrey. brilliant.

-- Pelfrey lost his only start against Detroit on June 30, 2011, allowing five runs, eight hits and five walks over 4 2/3 innings.

-- Tigers starters Justin Verlander and Anibal Sanchez each tossed five scoreless innings in the first two games of this series, giving up a combined five hits and striking out 12.

-- Tigers pitchers struck out 10 batters Wednesday, a game after striking out 12 on Monday. It marks the first time since at least 1916 the Tigers have posted 10-plus strikeouts in back-to-back games to begin the season.

-- Today's weather forecast calls for partly to mostly sunny skies with temperatures rising towards the upper 40s. Game time temperature of 46 degrees.

Noticed the the Motown Tigers forum has long been in the habit of posting the next Tigers gameday thread almost as soon as immediately after the current day's game has ended. A good idea and reminder that the season is a marathon, not a sprint to the finish-line, especially after a very ugly loss (to most Tigers' fans great dismay, if not outright white-hot anger..lol) that yesterday's game turned out to be. Interesting how those gameday-loss threads are often almost twice the total amount of posts after the game has ended, than there are pre/in-game posts.

Unfortunately the Tigers' pitching had ALSO issued a dozen free passes to the twinks' batters, during the first two games, which kinda subtracts from the effectiveness of their average of 11 Ks per game, IMO.

46 degree game-time temp, huh? What about the wind speed and amount of (later) afternoon sunshine?

Seems like the time of year w/ the bright early spring sunshine, w/clear skies, as well as the (abnormally later) timing of the start of the first two games has had a somewhat detrimental effect on the Tigers OF defense, at least, not to mention how the wind-chill combined w/ the chilly/cold temps had affected their pitchers and overall offense/defense, especially in the growing shadows as the games progressed.

Todays game is back to a more normal 1:10 pm start, however it will still be seasonably chilly, if not also windy, in "mini-apple-less"

Not justifying it....but it could be he is sitting Dirks due to the mis-communication that ended yesterday's game.

Jackson should be the butt on the bench if that's the reason. He's the CF and the leader of the OF.

Slick Kid Rick is gonna toss a 14K CG SHO, and he won't issue even one walk to the twinks batters, unlike the Tigers pitching has during the past two games. So...Chill.TFO.Spock!! Its not like your namesake to display such strong and illogically angry emotions (except when he became horny ~once every 7 years)..haha!!

This. AJax fucked that up, but you can't sit him without really killing the offense and defense. Leyland just loves him some Don Fucking Kelly.

Is it too early to be calling for his senile head? We're 4 days into the season and Im already making the forehead-shaped dent in my desk bigger due to his retarded decisions.

I get it. I am just offering a plausible reason. I am not justifying it.

We fans don't know what goes on behind the clubhouse doors. And, Leyland is pretty good at keeping team issues out of the media (unlike Bobby Valentine and few others). I see it as a way Leyland is sending a message to a player or the team in general. I might not like having Kelly in the lineup, but if it serves the purpose, OK.

Thats a hell of a message. "Dont fuck up or Ill start Don Kelly". *shivers*

Dombrowski heard from another agent for another relief pitcher "one minute' after Wednesday's blown save.

Smokes better not fuck my day up again today like you he did yesterday, that's all I have to say.
