Tigers vs. twins Game Thread Sept. 22

Yeah I fully understand WAR but cannot fathom as much value being placed in it this year and being used as a justifiable means to not voting someone who could win the triple crown MVP because of it.

Fister 106 pitches 0 runs 7 hits 0 walks 5 strikeouts 9 groundball outs,

Tigers lead 8 - 0.

That probably depends on how many pitches he has to throw in the 8th. You don't want to overextend him, since his next start will be pretty important, with any luck at all.

Personally I would yank him now that he made it through the 8th. But the reason I would yank him isn't the pitch count (over 100 now). I'd yank him because he's had some freakish injuries. Let a scrub pitch the 9th with an 8 run lead. But I certainly won't be remotely upset if he comes back out for the 9th.

Some blogger wrote that Cool Hand Luke P is warming up. Think I'd give DF up to 120 pitches, but then again, the guy has been injured a lot this year. No sense playing with fire. Besides, ol' Luke will shut 'em down, I'm somewhat certain.

That last strikeout looked good; I bet they talk about it a bit, and let him go out, while having Putkonen or Marte warm up, just in case it stretches out.

I agree.

I disagree with people who who argue WAR and sabermetrics have no value though, you have to look a the big picture.

After all RBI are a nice stat, but most people by now realize you can't use them as a gauge of a hitter.

ZonieTiger, that yankee game on instead of the Tigers on fox??

a's had 4 runs on 3 homers in the 13th, and the yankees just tied them ibanez with his 2nd homer of the game, tha acorn with a 2 run homer to tie it up.

Got to admit it that the Yankees are something else. Oakland goes up 9-5 in the top of the 13th & NYY just tied it back up. Unreal.

Keith Law on Cabrera: Actually, he'd be 3rd or 4th on my ballot. Just not first, and I'd slide him behind Verlander.

Law just hates Miggy simple as that. To say that Verlander is more valuable this year to the Tigers than Miggy is laughable.

fister is stayin in the game.

Fister must have done some smooth talking there in the bottom of the 8th after getting the HandshakeOfDoom.
Fister fake. Back out for the ninth, going for a complete-game shutout.
