Tigers vs. yankees ALDS Game 1 Thread Oct. 1

at 4PM
Light rain falling at Yankee Stadium. But tarp isn't on, and batting screens are on field. They're planning on hitting outside.

Tigers' Doug Fister, Yankees' Ivan Nova set for relief appearances when Game 1 resumes.

Doug Fister and Ivan Nova will make relief appearances tonight. But it won't seem that way.

Fister and Nova will be on the mound tonight when the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees resume Game 1 of the American League Division Series. The game was suspended due to rain Friday night with the game tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the second inning.

Game 1 is set to resume at 8:37 p.m. There is some rain in the forecast.

Fister is 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA in three career starts against the Yankees. He is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA in one start this season against New York.

Nova has made just one appearance against the Tigers. He pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen against Detroit during the 2010 season.

Jorge Posada will lead off the bottom of the second against Fister when the game resumes. Jhonny Peralta, Brandon Inge and Austin Jackson are due up for the Tigers in the top of the third inning.

I think that it really stinks that the Tigers had to bat in that deluge during the top of the second inning, the gawddamn umps waited a little too long to stop the game, when they should have done so @ the end of the first inning, IMO.

Detroit sports teams over the past several years seem to be increasingly getting the short end of the "yardstick" by umpires/referees, and they are being treated like the "Rodney Dangerfields" of MLB and NFL, IMO, maybe not so much in the NHL, but perhaps someone who has been able to watch the Red Wings play on Versus (I haven't been able to afford even basic cable TV in almost 4 years now) may post otherwise.

Girardi says he talked to CC about Monday vs. Tuesday, not about Sunday.
Girardi says CC could theoretically be used out of bullpen in Game 5.

"If we get rained out today and possibly tomorrow, we're going to end up pitchinig Jack Morris against Whitey Ford". - Tigers Jim Leyland.
Leyland: "If you can read this forecast, you're a miracle man".

Leyland said no subs coming when this game resumes. One factor: Nova's been better against LH hitters than RH hitters.

One small benefit of Verlander, CC starting Monday: Either would be on regular rest for Game 1 of ALCS Saturday.

Temperature dipping. 61 degrees at Yankee Stadium now. Wind picking up. Forecast is for 59 at gametime-rain chances dropped to 10%.

TBS wanted Tigers-Yankees Game 2 at 1 pm Sunday. Teams didn't like quick turnaround, agreed to 3 pm start.

Yeah I agree with this, the game should have been halted after the bottom first. If Mudhen couldn't see the ball with that downpour, how could the ump call it a strike or ball.

Wow. Ryan Howard three run jack just puts Philly in the lead.

Not really related to the gameday thread, but no existing thread to post to.

And this post doesn't deserve a thread of its own.

I missed it, turned to another station when the phillies trailed 3 - 1.
glad to see it, want the cardinals to lose.

I checked weather.com and it says rain today and 40% chance of rain tomorrow...all day tomorrow.

Quick turnaround?

Yeah, and what about those baseball fans who have tickets to Sunday's game?? Imagine a hungover Yankee fan who overslept, & didn't find out about the time change, arriving @ the stadium @ ~2:00 pm, and discovering that the game had already been in progress for an hour...haha!!

Looks like TBS wanted to compete directly with the portion of football teams, that are playing their 1 pm slot NFL games that are always skedded to begin at that time. Would have sucked for baseball fans that are also football fans, but obviously greedy, ratings challenged, and ad dollar craving, TBS didn't give two shits about them, or the teams having to play each other again that soon, who knows how long tonight's game will extend...esp. if there are any delays due to the weather, an injury, and/or extra innings...it isn't a "TV sweeps" week either, as those are usually done during the months of February, May, July, and November.

I think the winner of game 1 will take the series. I know that isn't a surprising prediction but this is a huge game.

alright, lets get this dog and pony show on the road, and get a win.

I don't know if I like this resume after just 1.5 innings crap.

I hate it. So now if Leyland wanted to put Betemit in for Inge due to Nova being a RHP then we wouldn't have Inge available as a defensive replacement late in the game.
