Tigers vs. yankees Game Thread April 7

Sure hope that this years team isn't gonna struggle to remain ~.500 for a couple of months, b/c they might find themselves a little bit worse than just 6 GB and mired in 3rd place by June, like they had last season, if so.

Ugh, shut out by fatass. Pathetic.

Im more worried about coke though, especially because jimmer keeps going to him late. Hes been just pure awful so far.

Missed this debacle. Got a call from a friend that is hurting with herniated discs and needed some help. I probably would have thrown some F bombs at the tv.

Coke pitching to righty batters again?? This sounds like doing the same thing over and over again like with shine box/Kelly/boesch in the lineup for 2 to 3 months when they are batting a buck sixty.

Victor is batting an Inge-like .143/.240/.143 so far...ugh!!

I know of course, that he missed all of last season due to his knee injury, he may still be a bit rusty from his long layoff on the DL, and the Tigers have only played in 6 games so far, but I hope that he will bust outta his slump soon. His only real value to the team is his hitting, since he no longer can even be merely a backup catcher, and other than that, rarely spell Prince @ 1B.

IF he continues to slump, then perhaps by the time that the Tigers go on their first WC road trip this season vs the A's next weekend, he could either be moved down the order, or maybe pencil Tuiasosopo in his spot @ DH for a series or for a few games here and there, and see how he can do. Obviously if Matt can hit ~.250 or better, than even that would be a marked improvement over VMart's disappointing lack of offense so far, albeit it still being very early as yet.

Avila, Dirks, and Martinez are all batting significantly below the Mendoza line. Their bench has generally weak hitters in Pena, Santiago, and Kelly. I will give Tuiasosopo the benefit of the doubt until or if he proves otherwise. It is really too bad that evidently Dombrowski places very little value on improving the team's bench each offseason, which truly ticks me off even more than ever this season b/c interleague play has been expanded to include the entire season, instead of just mainly during the month of June.

The Tigers went all year long in 2012 with Delmon Young or Boesch hitting 5th.

It's not reasonable at all to think they are moving Victor in the lineup period, let alone in less than 2 weeks time. The season is young and the numbers will normalize; Victor's not going to hit .143 the same as Ajax is not going to hit .400 the whole time.

It's way-too-early to show concern with Victor. But I am a little concerned with Coke. He has a history of not doing well for significant stretches, unlike Martinez. Villarreal is also a question mark. I wanted Marte in the bullpen instead, at the end of spring training. Villarreal has been fighting Commanditis for too long, much like Crosby and Al-Al.

It's been a week.
