Rick Porcello has not earned a pitching victory in almost a month. He will try to get that elusive win today when the Detroit Tigers host the New York Yankees in the second game of a three-game series.
Porcello (3-4, 5.21 ERA) is 0-2 with a 5.75 ERA in his four starts since May 6, when he picked up a victory in a 3-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.
With Austin Jackson still on the disabled list and Andy Dirks out of action due to an Achilles injury, the Tigers will start Don Kelly in left field with Quintin Berry in center and Brennan Boesch in right field.
Porcello is 2-2 with a 5.56 ERA in four career starts vs. the Yankees. Hiroki Kuroda (4-6, 3.96 ERA) has just one career start against the Tigers. He allowed three earned runs in six innings and suffered the loss.

Tigers without Alex Avila, Andy Dirks and Gerald Laird vs. Yankees.
For Tigers manager Jim Leyland, even a simple task such as filling out the lineup card is becoming difficult.
Because of the Tigers' litany of injuries and the uncertainty of which players are available, Leyland scrapped his initial lineup. Prior to Saturday night's game against the Yankees at Comerica Park, Leyland found out that catcher Alex Avila had tightness in his right hamstring.
That leaves catcher Omir Santos — who had his contract purchased from Triple A Toledo on Wednesday — to start behind the plate for the second straight game. It also means that Don Kelly, who will start in left field, will be the emergency catcher.
In fact, with injuries to Austin Jackson (abdominal strain), Andy Dirks (Achilles) and Gerald Laird (hamstring), Leyland will have only one player — infielder Ramon Santiago — on his bench.

Tigers (the ones still standing) vs. Yankees.
So Alex Avila came in today complaining of tightness in his right hamstring. He tried to go through exercises to loosen it up, but it got to the point where he worried he was about to full-out strain it. Treatment didn’t work. So he’s scratched.
As you remember from last night, Gerald Laird tweaked his right hamstring running out an infield single. He’s out.
That leaves Omir Santos as the lone healthy catcher, so he gets his second straight start. Don Kelly is the emergency backup. Kelly is also the starting left fielder, because Andy Dirks is shut down for a second straight hamstring with his bad Achilles. Head athletic trainer Kevin Rand said Saturday that tests on Dirks showed bursitis and a little bit of tendinitis.
Manager Jim Leyland said last night that Dirks might be closer to a return than Jackson. The information today might be the reverse. Jackson is catching fly balls and running the bases during batting practice today, and he hit soft-toss pitches in the cage earlier. He sounds like he’s getting close.
