Time to trim some fat(Durham, Edwards)

#2 receiver isn't as important in this offense since were not attacking down field like we have in the past. The problem this week was Tron being out so we didn't see 2 deep safeties so Bush couldn't run free underneath. The Ari game Bush went out and we couldn't take advantage of the 2 deep that CJ demands. If they make a trade it should be for a corner, Houston sucks at press man since he can't play the ball and our #2 CB has been a turn style of Mathis and Slay. Better CB play and we could be a top 5 D.

I bet if we had a 2, we'd attack down field more. Okay maybe not, somehow Linehan and Staff doesn't seem to want to do that much..

I'm telling ya, Titus Young. Bring em back..

Britt has seemingly been dinged up every game since his major injury in 2011. When he's hurt he's ineffective. I wouldn't trade for a guy that we can't count on to be healthy more than a few games each year.

That said, if we could turn a second round pick into Josh Gordon (who is prone to drops himself) or Hakeem Nicks, I don't see why not. As others have said already, we need a second WR that can get open consistently when single covered. We would probably be picking one up in the 2nd or 3rd next year anyway.

Love people saying "Why not trade a 3rd for Nicks, we'd probably use a 2nd or 3rd on him next year"....

...then he leaves in free agency for a team that is not up against the salary cap for the next five years.

... ... then we have no 3rd round pick.

... ... ... then Mayhew is an idiot for trading a 3rd on a rental, and that is the reason this struggling franchise will never win.

... ... ... ... then I have to go another year arguing with Mitch and Hughes, this time about why it's not Mayhew's fault, he was forced to bend to pressure from the members of this board dammit!

I'm out on Nicks, because it's his contract year. any team that would deal for him, the Lions included, would want an agreement on an extension before the trade was made.

I want Gordon, Shorts or Denarius Moore. I have no idea if Shorts is even available, but it seems like he would be.

I wish he'd trade a 3rd fir nicks with no extension....so I could add it to my long list of why mayhew is an idiot.

Let's smash the browns and convince them to trade us gordon. And whoever said we aren't one piece away from a complete team NOONE IS. Look at denvers pitiful defense and they are clearly the best team in the league. Also look at how one playmaker (welker) can make your team that much better. We are a potent enough offense to make the playoffs when healthy. But lack any kind of depth whatsoever. Mayhew and schwartz jobs are on the line. If they are smart they do something desperate. If nicks leaves oh well. We have a free agency and draft to fix that. It's called a stop gap.

Well put. Time to go all in on THIS season imo. Every team in the NFL takes risks on players, and the Lions would be foolish not to go after a guy with this much talent who plays a position we desperately need. Get him, then let Burleson and Broyles split reps in the slot once Burlesons healthy. Go for broke boys

Except if we trade for him and he leaves then we have a limited draft and wont be able to fill other holes with quality young players. IF he were a FA and this was summer I would say show him the money and lets go get a playoff run. But its not enough half way through the season and we don't have money to add someone long term. This team is equipped to compete right now they are one of the better teams in the NFC. I think Ogletree could be that speed guy on the outside and played some pretty decent ball albeit in limited snaps against the pack. If they make a trade for a wr like Nicks or Gordon it will be a few more weeks in order to lower his cap hit and beef up for a playoff run. I just dont see it immediately. Although Gordon or Nicks would be a dream number 2 and probably make this team a top five team.

We lose Calvin again we are not even close to equipped to compete. Our receivers do not get seperation. When Calvin is out they cannot beat anyone. That pathetic Packers defense made the Lions O look like one of the worst in the league last Sunday. I think you are taking that loss way too lightly. The Lions cant afford Gordon? Then why was there talk of them trading for him late last month??

I dont pay much attention to the guys at espn, but when every single one of them is going thru the game film and pointing out the lack of seperation the Lions receivers are getting, I tend to believe them. Land a guy thats proving himself in the NFL right now, or waste this season by waiting for an unproven guy to draft. Burleson is on his last leg, why delay replacing him? The Lions receivers all proved they cannot function without CJ in the game, and proved that none of them are capable of stepping up in his absence. Honestly cant believe that we have naysayers on here that still dont see the glaring need at wr.

I wonder how many would have bashed Mayhew if he took a WR over a CB. Calvin and Burleson went down. How many teams survive with a number 3 and beyond. Not many. We'll get one next offseason.

Until then let's just get Calvin back and continue to dominate

And if Calvins knee acts up again??? Season lost imo.

Mine too....

Lions NEED a 2nd WR. Getting Burelson back would just be icing on the cake.....but this team NEEDS a legit #2.

I say throw a 2nd to Jax for Shorts and see if they bite. That guy puts up numbers with NOBODY around him and coverage rolled his way......like CJ.

Agreed. This should be a win now situation, not a wait it out one. With Mayhew and Schwartz' backs against the wall this season I expect some urgency. Especially with last weeks loss, and the fact that the division is wide open.

Luckily, this organization is pretty young. However, you're correct. GB, Chi and Minn are all worse than people thought going into the year. We're the only NFCC team that has improved over 2012. We have a VERY realistic shot at a division title.

I think making a move now for a WR with a pick you are LIKELY to use on a WR makes a hell of a lot of sense.

I like the Ogletree signing, but he isn't scaring anyone. Jeremy Ross isn't either.

I'll be the charter member of the "I LOVE Shorts" bandwagon. (again, I have NO IDEA if he is available).
