You two above are fuckin kidding yourself if you think Yzerman would be the Icon he is in Detroit without any titles. That's stupid.

Barry Sanders is the exception to the rule.

I think any star Lions player who gets this state a super bowl title (Stafford, CJ) would immediately be promoted to god status that no other Detroit athletes have ever had. Football is king.

Exactly. CJ would get to an extremely high level of status without a title.....but he only sees Yzerman status with one.

of course yzerman would still be the icon he is in detroit without any titles...and it's not like yzerman did it by himself..not even close to by himself....a non salary cap era with an owner who bought everyone he could..

No. He wouldn't.

Who HAS done it ALL BY HIMSELF??

No team sports figure has, moron.

Guess we don't need titles to judge QB's??
Michael Jordan...same without titles??
Joe Namath wouldnt be anything more than a good "era qb" without his win in SB 3.

Get a clue.

Then come back and talk.

Where have our kicker come from? Hanson with 4 touchbacks and Harris with a 55 yd punt

Hansen looks good today but missed a clutch FG when we needed him..

U r fucking high if u think mere stats and titles will get anyone to yzerman's level.

There is only ONE "Captain" in Detroit. Neither Stafford nor cj had that extra "it" factor that Yzerman had. Barry didn't either. Nor zeke, nor the bird, nor kaline, nor anyone save maybe...Maybe...Ty Cobb. That stare, that deep penetrating level of love for the gampe, that ability to make everyone around him even superstars who came from other teams, realize they take a back seat.

Yzerman should never be compared in such an insignificant way as u have proposed, and that is without even considering the titles.

by yourself and surrounded by hall of fame/super star talent are two different things..there's alot of area in between...also you brought up basketball..which is a little more significant..because its a 5 on 5 game..where one acquisition actually does make a difference..

Because he already was a Detroit icon before he won any titles. Thats fact

I don't think so. Any player who plays his entire career in Detroit and gets into the HOF achieves "Icon" status in this city, whatever the fuck that means. Kaline would be an "Icon" without the WS championship. I'll put Dave Bing in that category as well.

You argue like a Kindergartner.

Isiah isn't a Detroit icon. HOF. Lifetime Piston.

Dumars......nope.

You're theory is shattered.

I heard on the radio today that after Young went back to practice last week he was acting up again and Saturday Swartz told him not to come back. It sounds like he is done as a Lion....thank god!

i dont suppose he said the same to Linehan and Gunther??

What was he up to this time? I'm kinda curious how bad he must be acting up for this kind of stuff to keep happening.

P.S. - This organization is a fucking dumpster fire.

It might be time to blow this coaching staff up. Go out and get a guy who demands respect and also understands the game a little better and controls the team. Im all in on Parcells or Cowher a bunch of playoffs and no super bowls but damn it we will be a well oiled machine. Beg the pats for Belichik?
