I'm thinking the next target has to be signing Sanchez/Haren/Dempster, and possibly trading Porcello away. I'm wondering if we might be able to flip Porcello to Toronto or Colorado since I know they are both known to like him.

There are several names on those two teams I'm sure we'd be interested in. Bonifacio, Reyes, Johnson, Fowler, Gonzalez, Tulowitzki, etc. I'm not sure all on that list would even be worth Porcello straight up, but they'd be worth considering. If we were willing to deal Castellanos too, we could probably land any of them in a deal that made sense for both sides.

I don't think the Tigers will be adding any significant payroll after the Hunter signing. I doubt they move Porcello unless they add another SP. I would be very surprised if they sign Sanchez.

Well the Tigers had a little over 20 million come off the books from last season. We have now accounted for 13 million of that with the Hunter signing and all signs are pointing to Mr. I in favor of adding additional payroll to chase that WS Championship so as of now I really don't think we are done spending this offseason.

I somewhat disagree. I think we're in win one now for Mr. I mode, and if that means taking the payroll higher where it makes sense, I think we will. I don't think you'll see us get crazy and sign another Fielder deal, but I could see us adding one of Sanchez/Haren/Dempster, and trading Porcello and/or Castellanos away for a prime player with a higher salary. Never underestimate the influence of an elderly billionaire who wants something. Hell, look at the stupidity displayed by Matty Moroun spending something like $40mil on ads trying to stop the state bridge and get his second bridge. Sometimes it defies common sense.

There are many players that are due some significant raises. You never know with Mr I....I just hope he doesn't mortage the future for a chance at a WS now.

Yes Tom, tell us again how he was an idiot for signing Fielder. :hmm:

If you think that's the end of the spending you're just dumb. Well you;re dumb anyways, but that would be concrete proof.

Ilitch wants to WIN a World Series, and he's not going to say 3 weeks after the season ended that hes ready to do that. Especially since he and DD will have to keep pace with the other contenders during the offseason.

Hunter was the start, not the end.

Time will tell. I think that unless he signs a starter like Sanchez, Hunter will be the most expensive (based on yearly salary) FA signing the Tigers make this year. You seem to think they are going to fill every single hole with an expensive FA? I think they might sign a few lower level FAs.....but I'm dumb and you are SO smart!

You didn't say that Hunter would be the most expensive Tom, you said they won't add any other significant payroll.

Does not mean they are going to break the bank, but they will sign other FA's, and it will be significant payroll. Sanchez alone will be another 15 million if we sign him, and if not him then likely someone in the 8-10 million range.

You basically stated you thought the Tigers were standing pat, not moving Porcello or trying to sign Sanchez.

And I never said anything about them "filling holes", just that it's very likely they will sign more FA's.

But I do agree with the last part of your statement. (I highlighted it for emphasis)

so fuck off

I think they will try to sign Sanchez without going with crazy money or years, and if they don't get him will probably stick with Porcello and Smyly at 4 and 5.

Don't know about haren, except his velocity dropped with reocurring back problems again. iirc dempster got lit up after the trade? no to both for me.

and can't rule out anything from out of the normal with Mr. Ilitch.

If Harens velocity drops were enough to frighten off a cellar-dweller like the Cubs, then the Tigers should probably steer clear also.

Nobody has mentioned, because he seems to want to return to the Nats, but maybe the Tigers take a run at Edwin Jackson if they can't land Sanchez for a more reasonable contract.

For a year now I've been hearing "no more spending, MI has a limit" etc. yet he keeps on spending. Face it, we have no idea what budget limit MI has.

I don't know why everyone thinks we need pitching. We need a bullpen guy or two, that's it!

This team had the best pitching staff in the league last year. Pitching should be a non issue in the off season.

because we either need sanchez back or someone to replace him in the rotation, i dont think any of us trust porcello to not suck.

Better to have 4 solid starters than 3. Big reason why we got to the playoffs.

exactly. id be ok with smyly as the 5th starter, but i want porcello gone. he sucks and its obvious no one in our organization can fix him (if he cam be fixed). trade him now when hes still only 23 and still has some value.

Nope. You're wrong. We don't even crack the top 5 in any category except fewest BB's and most Strikeouts.

Add to that we don't have a 5th starter who's even pitched a half a season at the MLB level.

You also said you didn't know why anyone wanted Hunter, so I'm guessing your ideas are pretty different from most Tigers fans and or Mr. I.

You seem to forget that Drew Smyly pitched 99 innings of great baseball before being replaced by Sanchez. Frankly he's already better than Porcello. So again, I'm not sure why you think we need pitching.
