What's next?

Nope. You're wrong. We don't even crack the top 5 in any category except fewest BB's and most Strikeouts.

Add to that we don't have a 5th starter who's even pitched a half a season at the MLB level.

You also said you didn't know why anyone wanted Hunter, so I'm guessing your ideas are pretty different from most Tigers fans and or Mr. I.

Or it turns out I'm right and the reality of the matter is that to the extent our "run prevention" looked bad, it was really our defense which was among the worst 3 or 4 teams in the entire league.

I also said nothing of the sort about Hunter.

He was - in UZR every year as an Angel until this past season. Really, he's an average corner outfielder at this point. Average is still vastly superior to Delmon Young, but it's still average. I think best case scenario he's about as productive as Johnny Damon was when he was here. Regressing his WAR from this year, you're really talking about a 2-2.5 WAR player. That's certainly ok but I wouldn't go crazy hoping for him either.

As for better players. Certainly Swisher and Hamilton. I would say Melky Cabrera and BJ Upton as well. Players I place at around the same level but not necessarily better would be a guy like Victorino and Pagan.

Frankly, I don't know why everybody wants Hunter but I have heard not a peep about potentially signing Victorino.

You most certainly did.

You seem to forget that Drew Smyly pitched 99 innings of great baseball before being replaced by Sanchez. Frankly he's already better than Porcello. So again, I'm not sure why you think we need pitching.

We're talking about replacing Porcello, not Smyly. He can stay as a 5 and great baseball? Really?

smyly was pretty good, but like thumb said he only got about a half a season of experience. i think hes a great option for the 5th starter, and i agree that at this point that hes better than porcello...which is why we need 1 more starter. we dont want BOTH smyly and porcello in the rotation, and since smyly is the better option (but.not a #4 at this point) it makes the most sense to get rid of porcello and get a #4 starter, preferably sanchez.

Are you seriously using WAR as your sorting stat?

Yes. WAR is the best measure, why wouldn't I use it? The Tigers had a great rotation, mediocre bullpen and horrible defense. That's basically what everybody who saw them play would have guessed and it is confirmed by the stats.

So then you think Trout wins MVP tomorrow obviously.

I want whoever will cost the lowest amount of that group. That almost definitely won't be Swisher. It certainly could be Victorino considering how much more attention Hunter appears to be getting. I think the differences between that group of players is small enough to prefer the best contract.

That all said I'd be perfectly happy with Hunter on a one or two year deal.

I guess you missed this post when I said I'd be happy with Hunter.

My post before was taken out of context since my only question was why people were obsessed with getting Hunter while an equal option like Victorino who might come cheaper was being ignored.

Nothing more to see here people, move along.

*covers silly ideas with a white sheet*

I guess you missed the part that all I said was you said exactly what you did.

I did not say you were unhappy with Hunter, just that you seemed to not understand why anyone wanted him, as you posted.

You're really splitting hairs. From the context of my sentence it was clear I could understand why somebody would want Hunter as opposed to say Delmon Young or anybody else on the roster in a corner outfield spot.

I never said they were standing pat.....

so fuck off
Just ignore him, he's an idiot looking for attention.

does everyone remember when we couldve shipped Ricky boy to Toronto for Halladay?

fuck you, DD.

either way, it was shut down before it started because we wouldn't trade porcello. now we cant get nearly the value we could have because most teams know he sucks.

True, but that's hindsight, Spock.

Most of us here don't want to give up Castellanos unless it;s for someone like Stanton, but if he turns to shit, we'll all complain about the offers DD turned down.

I personally feel he was right (at the time) to try to keep Porcello.

I guess, prospects are really hard to project. I just have never been very high on Porcello, I felt back then we should have made the trade if it appeared. Thats just me though.
