Which coaches would you prefer?

Why would either come here? Why would this team somehow become SB contenders because of them? This team could have Vince himself and they're far from SB contenders..

1. Jim is already "here" coaching at UM and will be here for some time hopefully.
2. John and Jim are very close and John was obviously missing spending time with Jim, it came through loud and clear in the sideline interview how much he was enjoying the time and watching not only the game, but his brother coaching too.

It's a perfect time for him to switch as Ravens are having a down year. Lions do have good talent jjst really bad coaches. If Saints win vs beatable Cowboys who are without Romo and Dez and game is in NOLA, it is the Lions #1 overall pick to lose. If they get that pick, John could reset the team to a good extent while retaining the existing talent. It really would be a great situation for him.

Missing spending time? One was on one coast and the other the opposite coast. Outside the 1 game they play against each other every 4 years I don't see it.

The Lions do not have good talent. But because I'm curious who are they?

WR: CJ and Tate are very good.
RB: AA could be with an average or better OL. Riddick is damn good 3rd down back. I think ZZ has great potential as be develops a D next year replaces Bell who gets cut.
OL: Young and I need of better coaching. For reference, look how different the UM line bas been this year with more experience and focus on fundamentals. Yes, NFL guys shouldn't require that, but they actually do. I solid OL coach could make a world of difference. Furthermore, they could get top talent in the draft to help, whether in 1st or 2nd round.
QB: Stafford has potential to be good in a system that fits him. As much as I would like to get his replacement this year, I would rather concentrate on trenches first.
TE: Meh...not a fan of any of them and would trade even in hopes of a R4 pick. Or just cut them. They really don't have such a dramatic difference in their ability to warrant keeping, though Ebron being still on his roomie contract they could keep him. Still, I would rather try getting a legit #3 WR and limit Ebron's snap totals.
DL: Ansah is a top level talent who is still improving. Rest of DL needs improved IMO, whether in FA or draft.
LB: Levy was top tier, need to wait and see if he returns to that. Whitehead is a capable LB. Can't have All Pro at every position, so keeping Whitehead is probable considering other needs. Bynes similarly has shown to be capable. A better DL would magnify his and Whitehead's capabilities.
CB: Slay is solid. A solid #2 needs to either step up ir be found in FA/draft.
S: Digs and Quinn are good. No need to focus on replacing them. Depth could improve. Improved DL would also benefit the S
ST: No glaring ST issues.

Biggest problems are OL and DL in terms of players, but those are actually far less problematic than the coaching.

Their jobs put them on opposite coasts. Professionally they took the best opportunities they had at the time to build their resumes. Same thing many brothers do. They still have a strong bond and their family enjoys being together, so yes...they miss spending time together and the opportunity to be closer would be a factor. Seeing how happy Jim is right now, returning "home" is amplified and more appealing as they get older.

I knew you'd list AA. What has he done? He's done nothing. All speculation. If we had this or if we had that.. many QB's do well without a good OL. Those are just excuses. And Jim, John - neither are coming to Detroit. That makes 0 sense. When's the last time they spent time in the same city yet now they want to?

I'm close with my family I just don't move around the country to live near them.

It isn't AA's fault the coaches have not set him up for success. The few times they have made good calls he has been excellent. Great quickness and speed, and better on returns than Ross. He has raw talent, if you have not recognized it yet, blame the coaches not the player.

I never said Jim was coming to Detroit, only John. Not sure where that confusion came from. John will come to Detroit because of Jim being in Ann Arbor. Little edges like family can be the tipping point. As for last time they spent time together, you obviously did not see them together yesterday.

So could have Jim...in fact, Jim still could go to Miami, or Oakland, or...

Maybe this joke is where I confused you, sorry. This was a joke that was all, based on how Jim was said to be going to Oakland for so long. Sorry, figured with your time on UM board you would have recognized it. My bad.

I don't spend that much time there, honestly. Game thread at times so I wouldn't know. At least I don't think you're crazy anymore.

Though coaches or not, AA still hasn't done a thing. Good day.

Are you trolling?

Look, I recognize the chances are slim, I'm trying to be hopeful. I see some legit reasons why this can happen. Not trolling, just trying to find hope in the bleak future of the Lions. This is the hope I'm clinging to at the moment because of what I perceived during John's interview on UM sideline.

Remember when Jim was said to have zero interest in coaching UM and it could never happen. There were miniscule tells that showed this was not true and Jim just needed the right circumstances. It is those little tells that I'm seeing now with John. Am I 100% certain, of course not. The thread is about who we would like to see as Detroit's next coach. I'm providing those small tells as reason why I believe it is possible. While the chances are slim, I like them more than any other options that have been mentioned.

I preferred John over Jim as Hoke's replacement, but obviously Jim is doing great. He is a much better fit for college and John for NFL. John has been in Baltimore a long time, so maybe he has no intention of leaving. Maybe with their struggles this season he or management or both might decide it is time for a change. With all of the potential jobs available, the Lions one becomes appealing for the reasons I stated.

You can say it is impossible, that's fine. I'm just providing the small percentage chance reasons it is actually possible. Not being a troll, I'm very serious in this hope.

I have hope that Bill Parcells comes here.. Small %. I believe he has a Grandma who lives in Southfield.

Well, if this is about who we'd LIKE to see, and not who's really realistic...

HC- Bill Cowher
OC- John Gruden (who I fucking hate with a passion)
DC- Dick Lebeau

Bet those guys can whip some god damned discipline into this team.

I agree with your "hate with a passion" statement.

Have you ever noticed the guy can't talk without shoving his ring hand into the camera. His hand gestures are all pushing that SuperBowl ring right in the viewers face.

Even his Fan Duel commercial, he's sitting so unnaturally so that he can get his ring in the shot.

Drives me bat shit.
