Who should be the #1 target?

I'm going with Sabathia. Makes for a killer rotation, gives us a premier lefty, and frees up some pitching for trades to fill other holes.

Somebody to play 2B with a respectable OBP. 9 out of 11 HRs were solo shots and that's why we lost this series. Our rotation is good enough.

Break the bank and go after CJ Wilson, or anyone else that they might want for that matter, fuck tha rump-rangers.

no to him because he is either really good or bad as we saw this series and no to CC because he has been ridden as the workhorse for too many years and only has so many bullets left in the tank. bring edwin jackson back to detroit at a respectable price or promote smyly/turner, or grab roy oswalt to fill that veteran pitcher

I say make a run at John Danks and Aramis Ramirez.. Both can be had...
john danks wouldnt be a bad pickup it's whether he can be consistent, he is the lefty scherzer/porcello

i tried doing the poll but it wouldnt let me choose more than 1 for some reason....

lol

I wish the guy the best .....but Action Jackson aka Super K has to be at LEAST moved down, down, down,down.......did i say down?.....in the order. Who to get to hit leadoff? Gotta be someone out there! Yes, would be nice for him/her to be a 2nd baseman/lady too. Gender? Best keep our options open ....because thus far of all the men the Tigers have looked at none was A)good enough or b) available for the right money.
All kidding aside....the Rangers had a lineup dangerous from top to bottom which the Tigers did not ...partially due to injuries. Had Boesch batted 2nd would it have gotten pitches for Jackson? Maybe....but then again he may have missed those same pitches. I say keep him but move him down to 8 or 9 in the order and find the good OBP IF we need. I trust these guys are gonna fix Jackson or find a replacement at the top of the order.

I see the 7 votes for Aramis Ramirez and it makes me wonder how many are actually looking at what signing him would really do for our team.

A) He is looking for a minimum 5 year deal in the range of 85 to 90 million (17 Per).
B) He is 33 years old so were looking at having him on the books until he is 38.
C) He is quite possibly the worse fielding 3B in the majors and this year ranked last in range factor and zone rating.
D) Our best position player in the minors (Nick Castellanos) whom by the way plays 3B is said to be 2 years away tops so would we then ask the kid to change position again?

And for those that I always hear question Reyes's durability I for one hope that its not you wanting Ramirez instead considering 2009 Ramirez played in 82 games, 2010 - 124. Also its a prototypical contract year for him and his numbers shout that at you. Look at his 2010 numbers.

.241 AVG
.294 OBP
.746 OPS.

Hmm now in what will be his last contract year he turns those numbers into:

.306 AVG
.361 OBP
.842 OPS

I am personally against the move of signing Reyes but at this rate he would be a safer signing and that's saying a lot considering you really don't know how long the legs will last ala Carlos Guillen and another 20m a year player will for sure limit future options the club could make.

Best bet this offseason would be to do either 1 of 2 things.

1. Try to pry Jimmy Rollins away from Philly (Which could happen for 1/2 the Reyes money). This would give us the leadoff hitter we desire and knock out 2 birds with 1 stone in that we could then move Peralta to either 2B or 3B shoring up one of our other concerns.

or

2. You make the trade with Cincy for Brandon Phillips. The good news about making this deal is that it was basically already made last season when Atlanta traded for Dan Uggla so you make sure to use that deal as a stone setter at least. One thing though is the trade would be dependent on him signing an extension and since were on the Uggla standard for trade it would only make sense to be in the ballpark of what he was signed to which would probably be 4 year 48 million extension to his already 12 million contract for next season putting the total to 5 year 60 million.

Either of those moves still allows us to make other significant moves to help this team overall and still address's a huge need.

Possible 2012 2B/SS/3B FA Last 3 year Away:

M. Scutaro (36) 87.65 RC/650 .298 BAVG .365 OBP .408 SLG .773 OPS

R. Furcal (34) 84.22 RC/650 .278 BAVG .344 OBP .399 SLG .743 OPS

J. Reyes (28) 83.45 RC/650 .291 BAVG .333 OBP .412 SLG .745 OPS

C. Blake (38) 82.18 RC/650 .255 BAVG .337 OBP .438 SLG .775 OPS

K. Johnson (30) 82.12 RC/650 .244 BAVG .318 OBP .420 SLG .738 OPS

M. DeRosa (37) 80.95 RC/650 .262 BAVG .333 OBP .424 SLG .757 OPS

J. Rollins (33) 79.62 RC/650 .258 BAVG .316 OBP .407 SLG .723 OPS

E. Encarnacion (29) 79.41 RC/650 .244 BAVG .317 OBP .438 SLG .755 OPS

O. Infante (30) 78.22 RC/650 .291 BAVG .325 OBP .412 SLG .737 OPS

A. Ramirez (33) 76.73 RC/650 .246 BAVG .306 OBP .432 SLG .738 OPS

B. Phillips (30) 76.36 RC/650 .277 BAVG .332 OBP .406 SLG .738 OPS

M. Ellis (34) 74.02 RC/650 .273 BAVG .328 OBP .379 SLG .707 OPS

J. Lopez (28) 72.15 RC/650 .263 BAVG .298 OBP .433 SLG .731 OPS

Personally speaking, I would rather go for Kelly Johnson or Omar Infante. They would provide roughly the same production, for a significantly lower cost.

I really don't want any big name free agents. I would like to add another BP arm, keep DY and upgrade 2B. If there is a trade to be made to upgrade 3B and or CF I would be all for that as well. No need to add another 20 mil per year starting pitcher.

Leyland should be our #1 target, remember he's the guy who wouldn't pitch Verlander in games #1 #4 and #7. did the Lone Ranger walk his horse? no he rode him

#2 target has to be Lamont, get this worthless buddy of Leylands out of baseball.

Maybe we are going about this the wrong way, when you look around the league there are very few, what we used to call lead-off hitters. The Rangers use Kinsler, with like a .274 ave, the Brewers use Cory Hart, there just aren't many Rickey Henderson, Ron LeFlore types out there anymore. A guy like Juan Pierre is available, who steals alot of bases, but his OBP isn't that hot either. Maybe Boesch or Peralta are who we should use? Also, the 2b and 3b markets is pretty weak out there, I want us to do something, but not really sure what, Phillips would probably cost us, at least Turner, would you do that? I think I would, he is only 30 and should be good for at least 4 more years, but it would be a risk. What about Desmond from the Nationals, I think he could play 2b or SS.

A lefty starting pitcher #1, then 2B and 3B upgrades...bullpen has loads of potential and talent, I think we stay put and pray that Perry/Al/Schlereth all take steps forward

Verlander did pitch 2 games and they only won one of them. Him going on 3 days rest could have backfired big time. They didn't get to game 7 so that doesn't matter.

How does anyone plan to get Brandon Phillips with what the Tigers have in the minors? Turner?

Jimmy Rollins hasn't had a good year since 2007. He doesn't get on base, so he's not a good fit for lead off.
