Ziggy going to be playing different role than a typical 4-3 DE?

DE read screens. If the tackle takes two kick steps and bails you replace your steps and drop into the screen throwing lane. The block on the end comes from being over zealous to the qb. He then dumps it over or around you freeing the tackle to block downfield. It's a good sign showing that he has developed his football knowledge.

Thought this was his forte at BYU, and was pretty much instinctual on his part

Yeah he's seems to have got that down, with his speed he should be able to get out on screens. Still, good he can recognize that, it is easy to get locked in on the qb as a rookie. If he can recognize these little things it will help him play right away.

Because he's a freakish athlete. Nothing abnormal about it...

Also opens the door to more disguised coverages with him dropping back. So many things a DC can do with an athletic and intelligent DE compared to having a DE like Avril who plays with blinders on and couldn't read the word "screen" in a Dr. Seuss book.

While it is a different role than a Lions DE has ever done, it is what you want in a DE. Maybe we won't get burned for 10+ yards on every screen pass.

Most DEs read screens....we just had Avril who couldn't read my baby's pop up book.

Having watching his film at BYU or at least all I could fine. He has always done that. He rarely played 4-3 DE. He dropped in coverage a lot. As many have said it will be a big change having a guy who is able to read screens and draws because with Avril we got burned every time because he ran upfield and didnt pay attention to anything else

Some other good news coming out of camp today was how well Greenwood played in press. Didnt let Mike Thomas get more than 4 yards down field in press coverage and also knocked Broyles to the ground. Win at the point of attack and you win the game. Thats true for all aspects of football.

Put him on CJ, then see what happens, lol. I would like to hear alot more on this kid before the season starts.

Yea but nobody press covers Megatron 1v1 that would be insane. Revis did a few years ago but they really didnt give him the chance plus he is a much better player now. Greenwood has some amazing talent but whether or not he ends up being a good starter remains to be seen.

to kdp's point mike thomas caught like 4 passes last year (he blows) and broyles has no knees or explosiveness right now lol. Ill need a lot more than holding mike Thomas at bay in a TC before Im jumping on any type of greenwood train.

Still, the other CBs can't seem to do that against Thomas or Broyles because they lack the size and quickness, so even if be cannot shutdown a #1 WR, he apparently can shutdown a #3 at worst, possibly even a #2. Shutting down that level when basically still a rookie is a good sign for the future and anytime you can lockdown a WR, that is one less WR the other guys have to worry about and the DBs, especially the Safeties, can rotate coverage accordingly and the entire D is better for it.

I will take winning a secondary battle over not winning any battles everyday.

Aaaaaaaand there it is!!! lol. Cant you just see praise and be fn happy for once?? Nobody is claiming Greenwood is Deion reincarnated. Its just nice to hear praise, especially when its coming from our DBs. Do you have to shit on everything?? For fuck sakes, man.....

the kid hasn't even dressed for a game cause he had a stomach ache or something for a year lmao. Praise for shutting down mike Thomas isn't much praise.

I'm sorry but Mike Thomas :lmao:

This isn't about being negative or positive but come on, Mike Freakin' Kelly, I mean Thomas.

The guy is a rookie essentially. It is quite evident he isn't the #1 corner, Houston is. But if be proves to be a capable #2 and Bentley moves to nickel, I am failing to understand the humor. Sure he is only currently working against the Lions #3 and 4 WRs, but that is nonetheless a positive that he is able to lock them down, no? Even if he doesn't prove to be a solid #2, doesn't this provide some hope that he can come in vs a 3 or 4 WR set and potentially lock down the opponent WR to whom he is assigned?

When was the last time the Lions were reported to have a CB able to do this even vs a #5 or 6 WR on the Lions roster in camp? How about cutting the kid a little slack and admit he appears to be having a good camp and look forward to how he does in the fast approaching Preseason? He might surprise us, no? What a refreshing change that could be! Maybe in another couple of hears he will give Megatron trouble, but you guys seem to expect that of him now, and THAT is what is really funny.

I don't expect anything from him. With mayhews track record I'd be surprised if he made the team. He's not the 1 2 or 3 or 4 if they keep bartell. He's in a battle with jonte for the 5th corner....which is why its dumb were even talking about it.
