Why Stafford will never be a great QB

The problem is 84 for 156. 53.8% to Calvin. Has to force it sometimes because the others can't get open. Plus Calvin had his worst drop year of his career.

38/86 to Durham. 44.1%. Durham blows and it's ridiculous we had to target him 86 times with the time Burleson/Calvin/Broyles misses. Drops and no separation.

39/53 to Burleson. 73%. Let him take his pay cut and stay.

64% to Pettigrew.

Thank you car crash, Young insanity (extent unknown on draft day) and Broyles terrible luck (achilles/two knees). But we'll try again in Round 1 this time. None of them were Calvin depth anyway.

Stafford threw well to Burleson/Pettigrew and his RBs. The garbage gave him garbage stats and forcing to Calvin hurts the comp % but is worth it with explosive plays by Megatron.

PFF has them at much more than others. 9% drop rate. Next closest is Pats with 7.8% but the leage average is around 5-6 %. That is basically a 4% swing not in Staffords favor. Not to mention the lack of separation by his wide outs. Previous years Stafford had about a 6% and 5% drop rate against him. He is a low 60% QB. He can make more throws to get to mid 60% but he's done enough to be low 60%. And if his WRs/TEs got better separation life would be easier for Stafford. Also if the Lions forced more turnovers.

5 losses. No turnovers forced by Detroits defense.

Turnovers by the defense can make QBs look efficient scoring points. Russel Wilson is a prime example.

That's the point. Who's data is correct? You go to several different places on stats and each are going to have a different numbers. What's so great about PFF?

In any event a drop or 2 every couple games, over a team like Denver, will not affect wins and losses. It's more than that.

And 60%, whoop dee doo. Where would that put him, 20th best, 25th. He's still inaccurate.

And all those low target catch % points to one thing? That our QB can't hit his receivers. Drops count for very little.

Drops and lack of separation by Durham/Ross/Ogletree/Edwards on 130 targets.

73% to Burleson, 64% to Pettigrew, 67% Bush, 77% to Bell.

Clearly Stafford can't throw to shitty WRs just decent ones.

If it's lack of seperation than why does Staff their our to them..

The last part just says Staff can't throw more than a few yards. A slot, TE and two backs.

Calvin is doubled. Most of the time.

Stafford decision is force to a doubled Calvin or dump down. If those are taken away more than usual, he has to force to Durham without separation. Ogletree mainly played and was targeted when Calvin didn't play.

Stafford has missed throws, but he also had tighter windows than he should have and a higher drop % than most QBs. And having good comp % with our best targets makes alot of sense. Don't know why anyone thinks Durham is even average. Stafford misses some but Durham/Edwards/Ogletree is a joke getting 130 targets.

And Burlesons and Broyles injuries, along with Young's insanity gave Durham these snaps and targets. He was all that was left other than Ogletree. I like Ogletree better than Durham but Oglretree only played when Calvin was out mainly.

The Lions used their money and draft picks to help other areas of the team. So WR2 lacked big time due to that and injuries. Pick 10 if WR is BPA, it's WR. This round 2 business you get the riskier WR though plenty of 1st round risk too.

Then why did he throw to them 130 times? It might be all we have but it's still Staff throwing the ball. Dump it off more or run but the best guess is in the huddle Staff tells one of them to do a curl our some other shitty play and never looks to a second option. He sticks to one guy...

Bush and Bell got a shit load of targets dude. 80 targets for Bush in 13.5 games. You have to at least attempt to throw to your number 2 outside WR to mix it. Sometimes Durham was open and Stafford either missed him or Durham dropped it too. When Calvin was out, they had to at least try to go to Ogletree. Teams toward the end of the season were sniffing out screens better because they knew it was coming. And of course Calvin was doubled so that is usually a forced throw relying on Calvin to be great. Calvin is great because he is doubled often and beats it with explosive plays, not because Stafford is inaccurate.

Our QB stunk, it's not rocket science. Blame everyone else except the head culprit.

Our QB missed some throws(mainly due to footwork) but did not stink, especially if you look at the year as a whole. You are not analyzing the situation as a whole, you are just throwing generic shit out that the media tells you. Stafford can do more but did produce good things. Especially in the first 9 games. Stafford needs his teammates to pick it up alot too. 9% drop rate and lack of separation from a number 2 WR won't cut it. Can't just focus on 6 of the last 7. I know you want to but you can't.

Next coach and coach has to fix Matt... If we can just get the kid to be smarter and a better leader I think he will be good enough one day to take us to the promise land... Hopefully that land does not end at 9 or 10 wins like 2011

Titus had red flags already when he was suspended multiple times at Boise St.

Mayhew gambled and lost
