Winter Meetings

maybe this opens up them getting dirks from us? preferably for murphy?

that seems likely. i wonder what the other trade mlbtr says the giants are far along on besides torres + ramirez for pagan.

Is Dirks really a starter in this league?

*shrug* probably not, but thats what the original rumor was, that it involved dirks.

Hopefully the Mets think so :)

I always kind of liked him because I would always see him in the dugout laughing like a little kid. It made me laugh.

Miami is offering everyone money and years. CJ Wilson. And Buerhle now. I'm a bit jealous.

Don't worry they will end up trading everyone anyways

After they win a WS. Would you not want to be them the last 10 years? We had a 119 loss season so its not like we're winning 90 each year.

id rather win one and stay competitive than blow our load on one year every so often. DD has been trying to go for the former.

[/quote:4svpytxm]but truly this isn't the year to blow all your money. If you are going to offer a 10 year contract it better be to Prince not Pujols who is 32 and declining. If you are going to be offering 6 years to a pitcher he better be a #1 guy and CJ is not that while being 31 years old. the 2012/13 classes is the one to spend on

Would you want a WS, sell, win a WS and then sell over 90 wins for 10 years but no WS? Regardless we haven't won 1 and we're not winning games every year. So which team would I want the past ten years, easily Miami. Its not a bad strategy.

In the last 10 years, FLA has just 1 WS and 2 times of 85 wins or more, only 1 time in last 6.

DET has been to the WS and again once more in the playoffs. They have 4xtimes with 85 wins or more, all coming in the last 6 years. The missed the one game playoff with MIN, or they would have been in the playoffs 3 times in the last 6.

It is all about being relevant from year to year. Do I want them to win the World Series? Of Course.

Since 1961, DET went through a 12-year (1994-2005) span of not having a winning team. 1974-1977 (4 years) is the only other time in the last 50 years they had 3 or more consecutive losing seasons. FLA has already had 2 working on 3 since 1993. No thanks.

The Marlins having BTDT both times that they managed to make a WS appearance, involved at least some good karma and luck, since inexperience, untimely slumps, nervous errors, injuries, aches, and pains can often inhibit, decimate and ruin a teams chances for postseason glory/success, as we know all too well, that the Tigers teams had happen to them in both '06 and this most recent postseason.

apparently Dmitri Young has un-retired and has lost 70 pounds and is looking to come back either in the majors or Japan.
