so many other teams already making moves or announcing them soon...while the lions are more silent than the night. fucking worthless organization. need to announce the changes early so u can go after the top targets, otherwise u r left scraping the barrel...but that is the lions MO, isn't it?

SOMETHING needs to happen ASAP to let FAs, fans, and everyone else know that 4-12 is NOT acceptable with the amount of talent on this team.

ridiculous.

And what talent, you mean our 2ndary or are OL or most of all wide receivers or our RB or our ST. We might have some stars but we're weak in many other areas.

getting rid of the OC or DC would suffice...something better than nothing. talent? team had enough talent last year to get 10 wins and make playoffs, there wasn't a drop off in the talent that team had compared to this one. maybe it stayed the same at worst, but i think it improved slightly while the team attitude dramatically took a nose dive and coaching was continuously suspect.

I think most of us look at 2011 as a fluke. Just look at how the season went, started off good and finished poorly. Also look at the 2 games lost by ST and the 4 losses in the last 2 minutes and I could go on.. At the moment, we're not a 10 win team based on talent but I think we're better than a 4 win team, based on talent.

So somewhere in the middle, we're probably a 7 win team based on talent. There are just too many football teams that are similar so unless we start drafting with better results we need better luck. The Lions need to play almost perfect to win a game.

i'll buy that mitch, won't get any argument from me there. but i would add that the coaches have the mental talent of a 6 win team at best and last year the players somehow managed to squeak out a few extra surprise wins despite the coaching handicap

I would be fine with coaching changes, I'm not tired to any - they're just coaches. But we know it takes Ford forever to fire someone. And I can't see Mayhew canning JS since the blames is equal. So unless JS has the balls to can a OC or DC I think we're looking at the same guys next year.

so if youre a 7 win talent team....and you win 4. Shouldnt someone get fired? atleast gunther! What do we lose with him gone...absolutely nothing. Make him the sacrificial lamb....just to appease the masses so everyone doesnt think the owner is a spineless POS.

Not everyone gets fired when they should. The falls under that category. But can you fire JS without firing Mayhew. So unless Ford has suddenly changed his tune..it took a word from his son to get Millen fired.

apparently Schwartz is still analyzing the season and has been non-committal about the staff returning.

maybe he's waiting to see who all gets fired as HC to see who he can bring in as Coords? Norv Turner as the new OC and Lovie Smith as new DC, something like that maybe? only thing i can think of as to why he hasn't already done something, but it seems to me he better be on the phone right now to see who is willing to come to the Lions.

So how does it work, Ford can fired Mayhew, Mayhew can fire JS and JS can fire the coaches? So obviously JS and Mayhew are still here..Linehan just seemed dumb this year. Gunther, I think he just had too little to work with though I think the wide 9 is dumb as shit.

When have "the masses" ever thought that the Lions' owner wasn't a spineless POS?

William Clay Ford quotes:

'00: "What do you want me to do, fire myself? I'm not going to"

'03: "I want him, [Matt Millen] I don't need any more reason than that."

some rough stats quickly pulled, accuracy may not be 100%

17th in PF
27th in PA

-0.1 passing YPA (considering +196 in pass attempts and -3.5% completion%, seems too many short passes and incompletions made the YPA far too low for a "pass first" offense, indicating the passing game is not as big of a strength for this team as the coaches might think)
+5 sacks...one of few bright spots to consider, especially with # of pass attempts
-0.4 rushing YPA
-1 in Forced Fumbles, -10 in Recovered
-6 in INTs
-4 in ST TDs
-6 in Defensive TDs
-5 in FGA, -6 in XPA
-10 in Penalties, -155 in Penalty Yards, not to mention Red Flag Penalty, but how many Offensive flags cost the team TDs I don't know.
-39 TFL...that is huge IMO, as every TFL has potential to be a drive killer

like i said, just a few rough stats.

Lovie and the Tampa 2 huh?

Lovie and the Tampa 2 huh?

tampa 2 didn't work here once before, granted...but how much of that was due to personnel and poor coaching of the scheme? bears seemed to do pretty well with it vs pass happy lions the past few years, no? was that because the bears are better at T2 or the lions just suck at knowing how to defeat it or...?

regardless, i was just tossing out a name, not saying he is THE guy i think they should go after.
