Yoenis Cespedes - Cuban CF

Just watched his whole video. Swings a lot like Vlad. Kid is a physical beast and would instantly give us speed on the base paths. Would most likely be like Aramis Ramirez and spend a month or 2 in the minors. I mean what the hell give the guy 10 mil a year. We gave Maggs 10 mil last year and look what he did for us

Magglio was an All Star and that was a sign of loyalty towards a player that helped to turn around the franchise. Plus our line up was looking pretty bad without him.

The number one pick in the draft doesn't get 10 million. Why should we commit that kind of money to this unproven player? I was thinking 3 million a year, but I can't stomach another 6 million dollar Inge or 10 million dollar higginson contract. He might be great, but that is a huge amount of money to give to someone that has never played in the majors.

Yoenis Cespede's asking price.
from mlbtraderumors

No thanks. that is a huge price to pay for unproven talent. 60MIL for 8 years? That is ridiculous.

I would rather trade for Figgins and stick him in CF.

the money per year isnt horrible i guess (heck, teams sometimes give draft bonuses of $7.5 million), but 8 years is absolutely ridiculous. he's probably 32 already anyways.

If he has all this talent why didn't we hear about him at age 19? Didn't learn the art of roiding it up I suppose until later.

All we have to do is have Verlander throw to him in a private session and they should be able to judge how he will hit in the majors. It's easy to say don't give him 10M but we may really regret it. We have to trust our scouts on this one, plus a private workout is a must.

That isn't fair. Maybe do it against Max Scherzer

Yeah, it is just so tough for us to judge him since we really don't know that many facts about him and haven't had the opportunity to see him play. All we can do is pray that our scouts know what they are doing and make the right call on whether we should sign him or not.

Huh?

Not that his 29 million contract (as well as Robber-tsons), weren't proven later to be highway robbery, but it was an extension of two more seasons in addition to the one year remaining on his last contract with the Marlins. I can somewhat see an "excuse" for DD's extending Nate's contract, given that he had demonstrated his value to the Tigers in the past, but NOT Dontrelle, that was amazingly stupid, as his stats were in a noticeable decline for the past couple of seasons, and Willis was a SP in the NL, not the AL. DD should have waited until mid-season at least, to see if Willis was gonna pan out or not.

Just a thought and I'm probably wrong but i wonder if there were some discussions for the trade to go through Willis needed a new contract? Either way that contract never bothered me because we were getting Miggy, a young stud.

No chance.

Willis didn't have any rights to reject the trade, and the Marlins wouldn't care what the Tigers did with him after they traded him, they just wanted to get rid of him.

Jesus it seems like a ton of cash for a 26 year old.. Lets just drive the bidding up and let some other club get saddled with him... Concentrate on second base..

Now that you brought it up, we don't need him. Other more important positions. He's not taking over CF from Aj so where, left field?

Yes but by signing him we can have a second CF play left field over Delmon, then in turn trade Delmon for a 2B/3B

If we get a 2b, most likely we'll have to trade a prospect rather than a 26 year old with less than stellar defense. I like Delmon though, probably more than most on here. I hope we keep him, whether it be as a starter, platoon or bench/role player.

Yeah, I was gonna point this out. Our luck we'd sign him and turns out he was around during the missile crises. Anyway, offer him less & see if he bites. Doubt it, but where is it written that these guys get to write their own ticket?

The money per year is horrible. He's 26, he says. Its going to take time for him to be acclimated into MLB. You want him getting 7.5 a year as an on the job training player? And very few draftees get 8 million. And its not for multiple years, I mean 8 years you kidding me. With that kind of money, it becomes a low reward high risk offer.

It's still a high reward situation.

And he won't get a deal that long...Pujols and Fielder aren't even likely to get 8 years.
