Penn St facing unprecedented penalties

It really sucks ass that PSU is not on Michigan's schedule this year. They could use a gimme.

If they don't have enough attrition, they're going to have some really rough recruiting classes. While being able to only offer 15 scholarships looks a lot like USC, the difference is much bigger than the 30 for USC vs. the 40 for PSU. USC was capped at 75 for 3 years. PSU goes to 75 for year 1 and then 65 for 3 years. If there was no attrition, they might not have 15 spots free in the 2nd year of penalties.

Hardcore Penn State fans are either in denial or just stupid. My favorite one that I've heard plenty today is, "But, Sandusky abusing boys didn't give them a competitive advantage on the field." (when talking about vacated wins)

It's like..no it didn't. Did it? You're so smart, how did you figure that out on your own?

Don't say all, there is a small minority that knew this was coming and feel that the school deserves this. My wife is one of these people. She's resigned that PSU will suck for the foreseeable future, but she is still a PSU fan, and acknowledges that something like this was needed.

I don't like a tv ban. That would hurt the opposing team and there's no sense in that.

The only point to vacating of wins, is that Joe Paterno will no longer be the winningest coach. Other than that, yes, its pretty meaningless. That is something, though.

I've only spoken to 1 Penn State fan in person and he felt the same way. I've personally of the impression that internet responses need a lot of interpretation and are always good reflections on the fan base as a whole.

My one friend, non-alum, but lifelong fan, is mystified by the punishment. Pretty upset and thinks it's too harsh. Another buddy who is an alum feels pretty much the opposite. Thinks it's deserved, was sick to his stomach and slightly ashamed when the news first broke. I've got a step sister-in-law who goes there now. I'll have to check her thoughts. Local reaction seems to be one of shock and dismay...

I should add, there was an "if it's all true" qualifier.

Also, Spanier is writing letters now. Spanier is the one not charged with anything criminal, but gets blamed in the Freeh report. He asserts the federal government conducted their own investigation on this issue in order to make sure it was appropriate for him to have top secret clearance. If he doesn't get his change to be heard, it will fuel whatever Penn Staters' theories are out there that the whole truth isn't known.

I would add that though the scholarship limitations are comparable, the overall situations are very different. To go play at SC with some limitations is still playing in LA, near the beach and for Lane Kiffin (with Carroll and all that nonsense long gone). To go play at PSU with some limitations is now playing for a program that will be tied to Sandusky for a very, very long time ...working out in *that* gym and showering in *that* shower.

I guess there is more likely going to be aversion towards the program than with other "NCAA sanctioned" programs.

ewwww... "that shower."

they really, really need to demolish that building.

Yeah, besides the statue, there are other renovations in the works. How couldn't you simply raze the building?

They should put Sandusky inside that shower just before they demolish it. Dirtbag.

that page isn't much, Red. what was it?

saw too a bit of levity regarding PSU ...a fan on one of their boards posted in a "glass half-full" tongue-in-cheek manner that at least the team will have a chance to break the 108 game losing streak this year!

I fixed the link. I don't think this should count as the longest losing streak in NCAA history, but that's wikipedia for you.

edit: and someone agrees with me and put it back.
