He's not near as good as the wingers we are going to have in the NHL this year and this will be his first year in the AHL. He's looked very good this preseason but he is more of a 4th line grinder/crash the net kind of player and there just isn't room for him yet which is fine because he needs a year at Grand Rapids and hopefully next year he'll actually have a shot at a job with the big club.

I really do like his potential though... He seems like a 3/4th line grinder that can get you 15-20 goals a year and has decent play making abilities. He played 18 points (11g 7a) in 18 playoff games last year in the OHL, so hopefully he can continue to grow this year at GR and be one of the wave of new faces next year...

Smith been looking good in preseason. Just don't let him fight, it was scary bad vs Boston. Haven't seen a headlock takedown in hockey for a while. Agree he has almost no chance making opening day roster.




Vanek and AA were looking great in Chicago game. Especially AA really flying out there.

Maybe with a full preseason AA will have a solid season from start to finish. He disappeared at times last season.

I've watch 5 of these games.. What I've gathered is the offense is popping, taking lots of shots and the defense still have long stretches of playing sloppy.

Lost of money coming off the board next summer.


Kronner 4.75 (likely last season)
Howard 5.29 (potential trade bait)
Jensen 0.8 (like him as a lower pairing, but the upside of the youngsters is enough to see him gone)
Frk 1 (RFA, depends how he plays this season, a make or break year)
Vanek 3 (likely trade bait again for 3rd year in a row, the return has been pretty poor for his offensive upside)
Nyquist 4.75 (no trade clause, maybe he can step up with Z gone)
Witkowski 0.75 (likely back due to work ethic, the Michigan effect, and enforcer ability)
