2022 Off-Season

Depends what they gave up. And Willis is going to have to be really good. Also i hope these defensive coaches can really really develop young players

If we go DE early, I?d like to see us somehow get Dean or Lloyd.

I have seen Dean fall to 32 in some mocks. Depends what gms think of his size and value of ilb for them

I am just feeling wr safety combo the most but Dean would be a great pick. Everyone thought Jarrad Davis was a great prospect too though..got to always remember stuff like that

What would be the reaction if we drafted either Willis or Picket #2 and traded up for Garrett Wilson? Sets up the offensive future for the franchise.

Drafting Willis would make this entire draft a fail. It would be, to me, a very Darko Milicic moment in Detroit draft history.

Pickett? Ehh. Maybe. I?d rather they ?reach? for Hamilton, Walker or Sauce over any QB.

Trading up for Wilson I like. Great fit in this offense.

ESPN had an article with very hypothetical trades for each pick in the first. The first pick they had for the Lions was stupid. The trade proposed for the #32 pick was more interesting.

Lions get: 1-14, 4-141
Ravens get: 1-32, 2-34

Let's finish up with getting the Lions that wide receiver. Their quarterback of the future probably isn't on their roster, but having Amon-Ra St. Brown, D'Andre Swift, T.J. Hockenson and a wideout such as Chris Olave would give Jared Goff plenty of options in Detroit.

Landing one of the top edge rushers at No. 2 and an impact wideout at No. 14 would be an exciting haul for the Lions, while the Ravens would have plenty of options for defensive line help with picks Nos. 32 and 34.

Don't lose a pick just value. If Holmes nailed 66, 97 and 141 still especially for LB and safety. Would be a really great trade. But take KT and then a trade up for Olave

I?ve seen this in maybe one or two other mocks. No clue why the Lions would trade up to 1.

Arguably nobody worth taking at 1 yet we?re going to give up draft capital just to pick Hutch.

I wouldnt be opposed to reaching for a WR at #2. Ill call it a reach because theres not a #2 overall WR in this class. But there are some great WRs so if they fell in love with 1 guy i would understand it. I also think you can still get very quality guys at 32 and 34.

I still love Devin Lloyd at MLB. Im hoping his slower 40 time allows him to drop to 32/34.

My Final Mock:
2) KT, Edge
32) Devin Lloyd, MLB
34) George Pickens, WR

and id absolutely shit myself.

Probably the same reason we won?t be able to trade out if #2.

I don?t know if I?d have the patience to see if Lloyd falls. I?d consider making a move once Pit is on the clock at #20.

As long as we are talking crazy trade ups

Pick 2 KT
Trade pick 32 (590) pick 34 (560) and 2nd rounder next year (about 300) for Giants pick 7. Take Hamilton or Gardner
Pick 66 LB Leo Chanal
Pick 97 WR Justyn Ross or Velus Jones

Still have two 1sts next year, 3rd and 4th

KT, Hamilton, Chenal boosts this defense at every level

This is where I struggle with value. Obviously can't predict who will be there at 32/34 and I know the pick values match up, but is the team better off with Gardner or Hamilton over say a combination of Hill/Sine, Dotson/Pickens/Watson, Dean, McCreary/Elam/Gordon?

I don't know, I still feel like this team needs quantity over quality right now. I guess I'm just worried about swinging and missing on a trade up.

Agree its tough

Hamilton is supposed to be ed reed or sauce a shut down corner. If they hit its gold. If 32 and 34 both fail though its the same thing as Hamilton failing

I think those corners will be there. I dont think hill sine or dean or watson will be there. I like Pickens but Dotson a slot guy to me. Pickens or Ross or Velus Jones later doesnt really phase me I guess

We take less value at lb or wr for more value at safety or cb.

The good news is I have some faith in holmes on day 2 and day 3 and udfa too

We?ll see who drops. By my rough count I see at least 23 guys who will most certainly be gone by 32. I think QBs will be the main factor here, I like 32/34 even more if Pickett, Corral, and Ridder go in the late 1st.

There will be a pro bowl caliber WR and a starting safety available at 32 and 34. It's their job to identify who they are. It's not an easy job, and a lot of it is luck, but they will be available.

I love this scheme change. Think it fits the players perfectly. Still a role for Julian Okwara as an off ball rush LB. Charles Harris backs up Hutch at Right End. Big base end is Romeo and Paschal and Hutch can move over there too to pass rush. Levi and McNeil can attack now at 3 tech and nose. McNeil is for sure athletic enough for that as he is not a true 3-4 nose. And Levi as a 3 tech is a perfect match for him, he is not a two gapper. Brockers can play 3 tech or base end in run situations too. Paschal once bulked up can go the 3 tech too. Attack attack attack and let these fast LBs shoot the gaps and run.

I'm as excited for this scheme change as I am for the drafting of Hutchinson. I think we are going to get good consistent pressure finally from multiple pass rushers.

2 years of drafting dlineman....they better say they are excited about the pass rush or else they suck at their jobs.

That dline also needs to be good enough to cover up the shortcommings of the worst LBs in the league.

As always...hopefully some pressure on the QB can help the secondary. Havent seen that yet....still waiting.

Scheme alone with help the off ball LBs. They also changed ILB coach to Shepphard so that should help. Attacking Dline and two DTs and two DEs change should make it so the fast LBs don't have to shed blocks as much but we will see. I think the edge is much better for sure with Hutch and Romeo there for run D too. Pass rush I think has a great shot to be good and helps the secondary and the LB coverage too (which I think is the liability of them not the run defense).

Run defense is the wildcard. If it were me as the coaching staff, I would just play Barnes and Rodriguez off ball and let them take their lumps and grow. But whoever shows out best in camp will win the starting job. If that is AA and Davis/Board well then that is what it will be. Only on one year deals but I feel like we can just keep resigning these guys year to year if we need to. Davis and AA don't fit many teams but they do fit this Lions scheme now.

Flat out Levi and Brockers just have to play better too. And McNeil was solid and he could become good as an athletic nose. That is what will make or break the 2021 offseason. There are some older two gapping noses out there in FA too Goldman and Star Lutuleilei too but now we are one gap attack Dline. We'll see if they can put in the work in OTAs/mini and training camp to improve.

The good news is the Lions realize their mistakes quickly. Revamp the WR room. Change ILB coach. Change the scheme when you realize two gapping sucks for this team and personnel. Heck changed the play calling when you realize Lynn sucked and was conservative. They learn from mistakes unlike other coaching staffs it seems.

Wide 9 until death, multiple two gapping under Patricia until death, offensive run game issues with Caldwell. The coaches and GM now changed the scheme to match the players. They didn't just try to add players to fit the scheme that they stubbornly tried to make work. And next year they will change the QB since they will finally have an out. Unless Goff does really well. Even then wouldn't hurt to take a QB in 2023 and have Jimmy G/Lance situation for a year or two.

we havent had the "luxory" of being able to grab and stash a back up qb in the early rounds the last couple years. Completely understood as we were talentless. Next year with one of those first rd picks may be the year. I wouldnt trade up and use both picks if you can avoid it. Seems like it will be a deep QB class....youll be able to get a franchise guy in the top 15.

I hope so. I wouldn't like to see a trade up either. But I would understand it if they did. That QB better be really really good though (no Tuas). Heck Trey Lance doesn't look worthy of the trade up right now but we'll see. Justin Fields definitely doesn't either as Bears used two 1sts on the guy and now they have a new GM.
