2023 NFL Draft

After reading and hearing about the combine, it sounds like Young and Stroud are "ready to start" and Levis & Richardson need time to develop.

If the Lions were to take Young or Stroud, I could see them trying to move Goff.

I doubt it will happen...I don't see the Lions taking a QB in the first round.

If I were them I would target Hooker in the 2nd and/or S Bennett in the mid rounds. I think Bennett would be an immediate upgrade as the backup QB

The inexperience factor is big though. I think Stroud would replace him in 2024 probably (depending how well Goff did in 2023) but still be inexperienced. Lions are favorites for the NFC North though. So they have to roll it back with Goff/top 5 offense.

I don't think Stroud falls to 6. Indy will take him. Houston takes Young.

And agree Levis and Ricardson are big risks and would definitely sit 2 years.

Hope Rodgers goes to Jets. Raiders sitting at 7 for Levis or Richardson and someone trades with Detroit and Holmes fleeces whoever trades up.

the Bears will trade back with somebody which will certainly throw a wrench in the way the QBs fall.

I?m a betting guy. My money would be on Holmes looking to move up rather than trading back. Love the guy as our GM but patience on draft day isn?t his thing.

Disagree, again, that he lost his job and that he got benched. Are you saying McVay needed the "injured thumb" excuse to bench him? Goff started every game until he broke his thumb.

Any and every one who?s a football fan knew McVay and the Rams gave up on Goff heading into the wild card game. Call it what you want, they moved on from him prior to that game, and traded him after. Having a hurt thumb wasn?t the reason they moved on.

I?m not opposed to keeping Goff next year. He?s not a bad QB, but he?s nothing spectacular either. I?d rank him around Dak, Geno, Carr, and Jimmy G.

If we were to move up for a Stroud or Young, I think Goff would be gone and a rookie would be starting day 1.

I?d still love to see Lamar Jackson in the Honolulu Blue! That would be my dream scenario!

I've been hearing that the Ravens are going to use the Transitional Tag on him. If they do, the Lions can offer him a contract and if the Ravens don't match the Lions would have to give up 2 first round picks for him.

IMO, Jackson is over rated. No way I would want him for the number he will want, let alone giving him the money, and 2 first round picks.

Yep...moving on...by signing him to 4 yr 134M extension the prior year. Poor management and a CYA move.

Poor management doesn?t win super bowls buddy. I?ll tell you what poor management does do, not win a playoff game in over 20yrs.

The CYA moved worked. So, win for LA for a one year run. TBD if it's as good a trade for the Lions, but looking good right now.

And, no thanks on one-trick, broke knee Jackson.

I?m not concerned about money or draft picks. We?ve had plenty of both the past 10yrs and hasn?t gotten us shit.

I can see an argument where someone thinks he?s overrated. Me personally, I?m a huge fan. Having an electric playmaker at QB, w a top offensive line and good WR?Man, I think we would be fun and dangerous. We?d instantly have Monday and Sunday Night prime time games. Detroit would be buzzing like it?s 1991!

Lamar's rushing skills won't last forever and he is already injury prone. And he wants a fully guaranteed huge contract. And he is not a great passer. Goff much better than him as a passer.

Might as well get Richardson and sit him for 2 years if you want a Jackson type QB. Richardson's ceiling is a poor man's Lamar Jackson IMO

If they go Lamar somehow him choosing Detroit somehow, it's a huge risk still. But then you would trade Goff and have a big cap hit in 2024 and beyond for Lamar.

Stop w the cap bull shit. It means nothing. See NO today!

Saints are over the CAP and had to backload the deal. Gonna lose some Free agents on the defensive line too (Davenport, Tuttle and Oneymata)

Lions are in good cap shape but will need to re-sign some folks starting in 2024/2025

Carr's deal wasn't fully guaranteed is the big difference. Essentially 2 years 70 million or 3 year 100 million. Lamar Jackson wants a fully guaranteed deal

That is a huge difference. Also Lamar will demand much more money than Carr got 37.5 per. Lamar will want over 40 per or more. All guaranteed. And if Ravens franchise Lamar, then Lions have to use draft capital on top of a huge contract

And both are worse than Goff

You continuing to say the cap means "nothing" shows a real lack of football IQ. The cap makes so many personnel decisions.

Listen to any sports talk show right now.....talking about all the players the Jets would have to release or restructure just to fit Aaron Rodgers under the cap. If the cap meant nothing......would they ALL talk about it? Why would the Rams be looking to trade Ramsey? Why would the Eagles let Hargrave walk?

Yes, it can be manipulated on a year to year basis.....and yes, you can find a way to fit most singular moves in.......but if you're just backloading everything it comes to a head at some point.

Screw ?cap space?, fuck the picks. We?ve had butt loads of both the past 10yrs. What has the gotten us?!

Lamar is 26. Give him $200+mil guaranteed for the next 5 years and I?ll take my chances we do something that hasn?t been done in Detroit since 1991.

Goff better than Lamar. Might be the most blasphemous crap out of your mouth and we?ve heard you say some blasphemous crap!

Yes, it means nothing. We see it year after year. Saints have been in cap hell for the past 3yrs and are $30mil over the cap. They just signed a QB for 4yrs $150mil. It?s an excuse and was proven today! Thank you NO

The real contract is 3 years $100M

Question for everyone - would you take Lamar and Ramsey in exchange for Goff, both our 1st rounders, both 2nd rounders and a next year 3rd?

Lol ok man. Whatever it is, they found a way.

To your point. It's actually $70 mil in year 1 if he's on the roster after 1 year. From a team that's over the cap. You spread the 60mil guaranteed out as a signing bonus... poof they figure it out. So you're both correct. Yes cap matters... yes you can manipulate it.
