2023 NFL Draft

If Anthony Richardson can read a defense at all I?d take him over all of the other QB?s.

The team that got rid of him benched him for a guy named John Wolford, remember? He came in as a backup to the backup in the 21 wild card game. My point, the team that dumped him didn?t wait for a qb before they gave up on him 2yrs after having a top tier statistic offense.

He?s been inconsistent his whole career, losing record as a Lion, and not receiving a vote of confidence if you listen to DCs interview 2 days ago. He?s a sitting duck in the pocket, struggles on the road and can?t consistently deliver the deep ball. He?s replaceable.

You are conveniently forgetting Goff had a broken right thumb suffered at the end of that regular season.

Not forgetting that part at all. Goff said before that game he was good to play and doctors cleared him. He lost the job to his backup heading into the wild card game. It was clear to everyone at that point McVay at the Rams were moving on.

And then Ben johnson fixed him and he became a good qb again

Classic comeback story

Top 5 offense. Goff goff goff goff 2023 goff

I don't think he fixed him...Goff just improved his TD/INT ratios. Other than that, he's the same guy.

Classic comeback story would?ve ended w a playoff appearance and playoff success. Only in Detroit would a fan call a non playoff team a classic comeback story.

Defense comeback story in 2023

Goff is the qb. Deal with it

Now I'm watching the oline combine and i want Broderick Jones at 6 lol. Dude is like a brick wall.

If Skoronski, Broderick Jones or Paris Johnson Jr can play RG... any of the 3 would be great picks at 6.

Johnson played RG in 2021

If you're not forgetting the broken thumb, why didn't you mention it? And, would you expect your starting QB to say he can't go for a playoff game, regardless of the thumb surgery less than two weeks prior?

You didn't mention it because it did not fit your argument. Goff didn't lose the job to Wofford. Wofford was the preferred option due to the broken thumb -- whether or not Goff was cleared by medical.

If he didn?t lose the job, he wouldn?t have went in as a backup. Goff was trash in the Super Bowl, trash the season he got benched, and McVay got rid of him that offseason. If he didn?t lose the confidence of his coach and front office, they wouldn?t have traded him and 2 first rounders for Stafford.

Lions coaching staff likes him and actually knows how to make him succeed even when things aren't going right around him (defense, all healthy weapons etc)

McVay failed and Ben Johnson fixed him.

He is our QB for 2023

Disagree, again, that he lost his job and that he got benched. Are you saying McVay needed the "injured thumb" excuse to bench him? Goff started every game until he broke his thumb.

McVay traded Goff for Stafford because he wanted a guy that would take chances......was successful going of script......can make a play on his own with his arm. That's not Goff.

Goff is a system QB. That is, he can memorize where everyone is and should be and go through his reads quickly....deliver an accurate ball....and make good decisions. He's been successful in Detroit because he's been good at what Ben Johnson puts in front of him. Not all quarterbacks can do that. And some can do it better than others. Goff is GOOD at it. He's not great. He's not a HOF'er. He's really good at pre snap reads.....understanding his progression based off that.....and making the throw. There's nothing wrong with being good at that.

Peyton Manning was a system QB. Tom Brady was a system QB. Drew Brees was a system QB.

McVay wanted more Brett Favre in his QB.

And LKP.....Ben Johnson didn't "FIX" anything.......just realized what Goff is good at and adjusted the offense to that. That's what a good coach does. Good coaches recognize their players talents and don't ask them to do things they aren't good at.

That is fixing Goff. Making him productive and less turnover prone. But agree it was more schematic/decision making strengths than mechanics needed.

Lions have a top 5 offense with Goff. Lions won't mix that up for 2023. 2024 depends on his play in 2023. They could take a QB but we all know (except 503) that the rookie QB will sit a year (barring injury)

It's nice to be able to have the option to take a QB, still build the team with plenty of other draft picks/cap space/young player development.

I think Stroud could be the guy but won't be there at 6. Not sure on Levis or Richardson quite yet. I don't think the Lions should trade up for Stroud or Young because then it makes it harder to build the team this year.

Use one pick on a QB, not multiple is what it boils down to for me. I have faith in Holmes to build this team well with pick 18 and day 2 picks/FA/re-signs.

I didn't like the trade because I didn't want to rebuild with an overpriced vet. I wanted to start over with a rookie contract. 2021 draft would have been fields or Mac Jones. Meh... probably best we didn't take either of them. Not to mention we wouldn't have had Sewell.

2022 was probably the worst draft for qbs in history. Kenny Pickett was first off the board at 20. Don't really want him.

So in hindsight getting Goff ended up being an insurance policy that paid in full. Not cause he's great... but because we weren't going to get great from anywhere else.

After reading and hearing about the combine, it sounds like Young and Stroud are "ready to start" and Levis & Richardson need time to develop.

If the Lions were to take Young or Stroud, I could see them trying to move Goff.

I doubt it will happen...I don't see the Lions taking a QB in the first round.

If I were them I would target Hooker in the 2nd and/or S Bennett in the mid rounds. I think Bennett would be an immediate upgrade as the backup QB
