He didn't fit the system. Try and forget about the fucking sacks for a second. The guy they brought in fits the system to a tee and has played well during preseason. If you look at Patricia's defenses in the past, you will see that he doesn't have household name players making plays, getting pressure, getting sacks and being disruptive. It's just hard working players that fit his system. Give the man a chance!!! Lol. He's coached 4 meaningless preseason games and this fanbase is ready to fucking lynch the guy lol. This is a time to be upbeat but not this franchise. Nooooo we'll just stick our head in the sand and call it a day. It's fucking mind blowing. Chill

I saw zero reasons in the preseason to believe this team will be a contender this year. They are way to out of wack with pencil ear guys new schemes. maybe they get it together in the second half and we can hope again next year. it takes time to get new systems down. And thus is our Lions Cycle.

Suck, contend, exit first round, underachieve, fire coaches start over, rinse wash repeat. Been going on for as long as I've been alive. They are now at the new coach's new system, step back suck portion of the cycle.

I believe he's making the point that if you take away the sacks from Zettle, he didn't produce much last year.

I would disagree. I think he brought pretty consistent pressure, and honestly I am concerned that what appears to be a very weak pass rush, just lost a useful cog in the system.

I'm not sure how a team getting zero pressure on the QB thus far, can afford to lose a guy who can get pressure on the QB. I'm hopeful Patricia and Quinn have a plan, but right now, this looks bleak to me.

Based on measureables they are similar. Within an inch within a few pounds. Okwara a bit better at vert and broad, zettle more bech reps and better 40 time.

What is the major difference?

It seems Patricia wants as much position flexibility as possible. Zettel is a pass rusher. A 4-3 end. He?s not going to drop in coverage and as Tony stated didn?t really set an edge.

Maybe that?s why he?s gone. I don?t know. It does seem to be a strange move given our seemingly nonexistent pass rush.

He produced for the first 8 games!! He literally disappeared after that though. Vanished really.
Know what's funny??? This board ripped Zettel. Now, it's crying about his release lol. I liked the kid, I loved his hustle and he's a feel good story. Guess what though?? He doesn't fit what Patricia wants. THAT'S IT!! End of fucking story. He's a backup that got a chance to start because of injury to Hyder. You looking for those 6.5 sacks???? Combine stats??? Nobody gives a shit about their combine stats. From what I have read about Okwara is that his strength stands out the most. He sets the edge extremely well on running plays, keeping the RB from bouncing outside. Zettel got beat religously on running plays, always chasing RBs to the outside or getting put on his back. This Okwara kid even has a little passrush in him. Since everyone cares about preseason so much, he led the Giants in QB pressures and a couple of other categories I guess.
