6.7 mil in cap room

I agree about the complementary piece, Bush. Could he add to the team, sure. But why when with the current defensive holes we won't win more that 5 games. Why not add defense through free agency before we start adding a guy like Bush? Its a legit point.

You don't know how many games we will win with this defense. Maybe they go offense in free agency and 3 defensive picks in the draft (DE,CB,Safety). Or Don Carey(he did last year) and Bill Bentley/Green/Greenwood and Ashlee Palmer/Lewis/Whitehead(Palmer did a solid job with Levy down) fill in well for 3-4 open spots.

I'm just looking at what we know now..now what ifs. We lost two starting DE. Our only S worth even close to a damn is not signed. Our only solid CB is not signed. Our best tackling LB is not signed. We lost depth. Spievey, Hill, Florence and lacy to name a few. Might be crappy depth but it's all we had. You can't fill them all. The guys like Greenwood, Whitehead etc - you can't assume they're any good, they haven't played yet. There is a better chance they fail than succeed just based on where they were drafted.

What we have now won't be what we have during the season. We'll have much more through FA and the draft and you know that for a fact.

Bentley/Greenwood/Green are better than Lacey/Florence. We have Don Carey who proved better than Spievey last year. I wouldn't call cutting KVB a loss either. We have a top 5 pick for a DE or CB and Round 2 is deep at both. Stop worrying.

And if nothing else changes but Stafford playing like 2011, we'll still win a bunch of games.

Stafford plays like 2012 and we don't cover the 7 remaining holes on defense were going to challenge the 0-16 team for worst team ever. The good news.....we get jadaveon clowney with the 1st pick in the draft :D

If Stafford plays like 2012 again, then we got bigger problems. But they won't let all these holes remain. FA and draft will get us more talent. Don't worry about it.

What kind of FA talent will we get? We have enough to get a guy Like Bush, in which people are saying he's coming. We might free more cap space but we don't have it yet. We won't get someone in FA as good as Houston. Or a LB as good as Durant or a DE as good as Avril, as much as I hate that dude. No one is coming here.

And lets look at draft. We got Fairley, basically was non existence in year 1. LeShoure IR first year. Reiff, wasn't productive enough. Broyles, 2nd round picks need to catch more than 22 balls. LB and CB we drafted last season did nothing. I could go on. So with Mayhew's history, outside the 5 pick why should we expect instant success with any of those 2nd 3rd 4th and later picks?

Fairley and LeShoure and Broyles all would be instant if not for injury. Delmas and Pettigrew were instant and Levy and SLH. Best was instant help. Reiff they didn't need him just yet but he was an obvious long term answer for the Oline.

Mayhew has plenty of examples of instant help. And if it's too soon to say Reiff/Broyles are answers, then it's too soon to say Bentley/Lewis/Whitehead/Green/Greenwood/Lewis aren't answers for this defense.

Young and Fox are on their last chances from 2010.

And you know this how? And how do you know he won't continue to draft guys that get hurt? He's done it in the past.

We could be that unlucky. Delmas, LeShoure, Spievey, Bentley and Fariley never had a big injury history in college. Best and Broyles did and even so it was Broyles other knee and Best played 21 games before a concussion. And Fairley/Leshoure played the majority of the last season.

One day our 2nd/3rd round picks will see the field with health. And it could be under Mayhew in 2013.

And thats one good thing for Reggie Bush. Pretty healthy with alot of carries the last 2 years. We'll see who's avaialbe in the draft in Rounds 1-3 and how healthy they can stay. Broyles I've seen him recover before and LeShoure is a year removed from his injury and proved he could stay heatlhy after the achille. Same wiht Fairley after the foot injury. Same with Stafford with the shoulders and 33 in a row.

Lions deal with injuries and finished 4-4 in 2011 and stated 4-4 in 2012. The 0-8 finisih is when the injuries just got to be too much with almost every single weapons, Burleson, Young, Broyles and Pettigrew and Best and lots of DT and secondary health issues (CW, Fairley,SLH, Bentley, Greenwood, Lacey, Spievey, Delmas)

So how does a team with injuries, who have scrubs playing get ahead of teams for 58 minutes and yet when we lose, its because of injuries?

Depends whose fault it is for why the lead was given up. It wasn't all injuries but more points could have been scored if not for injuries in some instances or earlier points scored due to backups getting beat (mainly Florence and Wendling/Coleman/Sivla). Our DEs sucking was not injury related. They were supposed to be good based on 2010/2011 though.

So basically you don't have an answer. 2010? The team won 2 games until they went on a W4.

2010 they didn't have any LBs and were missing Stafford almost all year. Not even close to the same team. The 2012 team was much better than the 2010 team talent wise, just grossly underachieved plus injuries.

The answer is Stafford/Tulloch/Pettigrew will get it together, they'll be fairly healthy and they'll limit the turnovers and be back in playoff contention.

Those 100 points from the offense/special teams were killers. I don't expect that again.

Injury is one of four main reason. Stafford regression in the redzone, turnovers, and unexpected bad DE play.

All can be fixed. Three without roster moves. Stafford/turnovers/injury

You keep pointing to these things, but here's the reality shared by many others:

1. Injuries happen to every team. Other teams overcome them and the Lions did overcome them in 2011. In 2012, the guys who were supposed to step up did not. Then the Lions started street guys. Not Mayhew's fault that he had no alternative to some degree, but the lack of depth is something that might not have been an issue if he had drafted better.

2. Staff regressed or teams figured out the Lions RZ offense? Or maybe Staff had his career year in 2011. You cannot guarantee his 2012 season was the fluke. This will take several more years to determine. Much of the blame here I place on the coaching staff, for they needed to really work harder on his mechanics, reads, and develop new plays so the D would not have the Lions so easily figured. If none of those things are corrected, then there is less hope that 2012 was the off year.

3. Turnovers sucked and that can be an anomaly any year. However, they can also be difficult to correct. On this front, it does seem the FO is making changes. Still, as with #2 above, if Stafford is not given better coaching and really works to fix what went wrong, his INTs will likely not change all that much.

4. The poor DE play may have been unexpected by you, but others anticipated it. KVB being older and Avril having been exposed against the run were things many had pointed to as potential problem areas before 2012 began. Many wanted Avril gone instead of tagged, most of them wish that had happened. However, the poor play of the backups was not anticipated by this same group, many believing the backups had the ability to step up. That did not happen and proved to be a big problem that without doubt must be corrected and I think it is agreed we all look forward with anticipation as to how Mayhew will try to correct it, whether in FA, Draft, or both...hopefully both.

In the end you are still making a large number of assumptions and have too many IF scenarios to provide any comfort or calming of frustrated fans. Personally, I cannot wait for FA and the Draft to be done so I can look at the new roster and once again return to being an idiot drunk on Honolulu Blue Kool-Aid! Cuz that is how I roll (some said 12 wins going into 2012, I was saying 13). I go into every year as one of the biggest HBKA drunks around. I guess my problem is I got too drunk going into 2012 and this hangover has been a bitch. lol

1. Lions had depth. Palmer, Carey, Broyles, Reiff, Hill all did well. Even Green to a certain extent. Lions can overcome injuries. We'll see how they do it in 2013 and who steps up. It's more likely someone does than doesn't
2. Stafford is a good QB and Linehan is a good OC. Not worried for one second about him
3. Turnovers can be corrected easily. Special teams coverage was fixed and Stafford and ball protection by the weapons can and will happen. And I expect more than 0 defensive TDs/special teams in our favor this year. Even 3-4. Split the difference 30 TDs and 14 picks, 12 fumbles lost and 3-4 def Tds in the Lions favor and the Lions win at least 6 more games given how well they move the ball.
4. Avril was a good pass rusher. Wer're not talking about run defense here. His pass rush drop off along with Jackson and Young were very unexpected. And KVB is old but that doesn't mean he has to go from an average player vet to the worst DE in the league. This must be corrected. We'll see how in FA and the draft.
