Final Mock

yes...its another mock thread. But now that all the comp picks have been assigned, were pretty much done in FA and the draft is STILL over a month away I figured now is as good a time as any.

Needs by position (not in any order of importance):

Qb - Hill is gone....need a back up. How good Stafford is has been heavily debated on this board...but one thing is clear.....any new first time OC will want to pick a guy he can groom. Even if it means that guy is a back up.

Rb - were good

WR - Tate signing gave us a nice complement to CJ....but we still need depth at the position. A skilled deep threat that can take the top off would be a bonus

TE - really wanted a new one via draft but with Pettigrew being resigned and Fauria on the roster I don't think it gets addressed.

Oline - I find the RT need to be greater than most it seems on this board. I think Waddles weaknesses were hidden by how fast we got the ball out. If Stafford is going to improve he needs longer in the pocket to make the correct read...its not proven our line can do that consistently. Others seem to think Crayolas replacement is a heavy need....I don't.

Dline - depth is a concern at DE and DT. DT could be a major future concern with fairleys option not being pickd up and suhs contract status still up in the air.

LB - Palmer meh. Tully is consistent but how long can he do it for? Levy had his first good season of his career last year...can he repeat the production?

CB - We have a ton of depth...its just filled with less than quality starters and even worse back ups. Improving the quality should be a focus...not adding more bodies. New DC is a secondary guy...can he improve our less than stellar unit?

S - We signed Ihebobbleheadgo to play next to Quin. But hes over 30 and we have no depth. Need someone to groom.

Picks:

No. 10 (first round;)
Justin Gilbert CB
Im using the 10th pick to upgrade the worst unit on the team. Gilberts size and athleticism reminds me a lot of Patrick Peterson. Hes not the best tackler and sometimes relies on his speed over form/fundamentals. Huge return ability. Trades up or down welcome.

No. 45 (second round, 13th pick)
Kareem Martin, DE
Focus here is the defense....stopping teams so were not forced to air it out with Stafford should be a main focus for this team. Martin is a great combo of size and speed. He was productive for UNC at 270 lbs. Big body made a lot of plays for them in the backfiled vs the run.

***Trade option***
We trade our 3rd and 4th round picks to move back into the 2nd to grab:
Donte Moncrief, WR
Great production in the SEC. his 4.4 flat speed at the combine surprised a lot of people for a 6'2'' WR. Definitely can hold his own on the outside....buzz has him as a poor man's demaryius Thomas. Stafford no longer has any excuses for sucking ass. This guys projections are all over the map as far as where hes going to go in the draft. If hes still on the board mid to late 2nd round I have no issues pulling the trigger now that we have 2 comp picks in the 4th for depth.

No. 76 (third round, 12th pick)
Martavis Bryant, WR
Well over 6'3'' with blazing speed. Would pair nicely opposite CJ with Tate on the field.

No. 111 (fourth round, 11th pick)
Ahmad Dixon, S
Safety depth so we don't have to see Carey on the field ever again. Speed and size. Hits are brutal. Good ball skills.

No. 133 (fourth round, 33rd pick)
Tom Savage, QB
Need a back up. Good QB size. Strong arm. Age could hurt him.

No. 136 (fourth round, 36th pick)
Anthony Johnson, DT Nice DT depth with future potential to grow into a starting role.

No. 189 (sixth round, 13th pick)
Kicker...preferably one that makes FGs

No. 227 (seventh round, 12th pick)
Who Cares....

Can't say I like the trade option, but I'm hoping we take Martin in the 2nd as well. He would be an amazing addition to this line.

To land Bryant and Dixon would make me very happy.

Bryant and Dixon vs Moncrief is basically what ur looking at with my scenario. You need both those guys to still be there and its still a tough call imo. Many GMs/Former GMs see Moncrief as a rd 1 talent. If it means youre guy is on the board and its a sure thing I think its ok to pull the trigger here since we added the two 4th round comp picks.

Nice mock, bro..

Only issue i have is back-to-back WRs. Gotta fill in a LB somewhere there.

Not really.....Palmer was healthy all year and only played about 350 snaps. Though we could certainly use an upgrade at the position....it's not as important as a S or DE...IMO.

Tom Salvage? If you're going to groom someone, especially a fourth round - older guy who's been all over the place is not good enough. Plus, he's more arm not enough accuracy. I don't want Stafford 2.0 I'm surprised you do Hughes.

Look again Tony, it's not back to back WRs.

He's giving the option of trading back into the second to take Moncrief using our 3rd and a fourth, or taking Bryant in the 3rd and Dixon in the 4th instead.

I'd prefer the Bryant/Dixon combo myself.

its not really back 2 back. its one or the other. I just threw that option in if mayhew wanted to trade up. if we got moncrief id assume itd take our 3rd and 4th rd pick so we wouldn't have Bryant and Dixon.

I agree lb could be upgraded. im just having a hard time finding a guy I like other than shazier who is projected as a late 1st.

I just know I don't want kellen moore lol. Mettenberger, murray, savage all in play there I think.

Then use a pick on a guy that had been hugely accurate in college..Not sure this guy would be better than Moore.

its a tough call....I like all 3 of those guys lol. the downside is not knowing if Bryant/Dixon will be there still.

That's the thing why get someone like that..I want a smart qb..

Strong arm means nothing in the NFL.

Yup. I think Savage is built more for a pro style offense. He's smart and accurate when he has time. Not sure he's right for a pass heavy offense. He should be drafted and should have a nice career as a backup, it just shouldn't be in Detroit.

I'm just a little weary of "he has a strong arm" Lol.

I was hoping for less of a pass heavy offense. As a 4th rd back up he wouldnt be bad value. Not sure who fits as a pass heavy qb in the 4th or later.

You mean likeColt Brennan, Danny Weurful and Timmy Chang?

No thanks.

College accuracy is not necessarily telling of pro success.
