What I'm liking right now is

Detroit's final 10 games
4 vs KC
3 @ Min
3 @ KC

Chicago's final 10 games
3 @ LA Angels
3 vs Cle
4 vs Tampa

I think I'd rather play a team still in a race than one with nothing to lose. We've been bitten by the Royals in a final series in the past.

Wish they finished at home vs. twins and royals.

White Sox win, Royals lose

Hopefully the Royals can help us out a little bit over the weekend.

The way the White Sox are playing it looks like the Tiger's only chance to catch them will be when they play head to head.

The difference between last year and this year

Tigers record through 118 games
2011: 63-55, up 3 games
2012: 63-55, behind 2.5 games

but they went on an absolute terror killing the weak AL central teams down the stretch.

44 Total games left

Games left against ALC opponents
KC - 10
Min - 6
Chi - 7
Cle - 6

They really have the opportunity to do the same this year, whether they take advantage of it is another matter.

IMO They have only 6 tough series left in the season (against teams in the hunt)
Aug 17-19 vs Baltimore
Aug 24-26 vs LA Angels
Aug 31-Sep 2 vs Chicago
Sep 7-9 @ LA Angels
Sep 10-13 @ Chicago
Sep 18-20 vs Oakland

19 games

None of these teams are anything special either.

If I wasn't concerned with the ups and downs of this team, I'd say they are in a very good position right now.

Let's stay relatively conservative and say they win all their series against the bad teams (all 2-1/3-1, 17-8 overall) and lose 5 of those tough series (all 1-2) and split the one with Chicago (7-12 overall). That would give them a 24-20 record the rest of the season, 87-75 as the final record. That's probably not gonna be enough to win the division or make the wild card but this is all assuming they're going to play mediocre, beat the bad teams and lose to the good teams.

Let's put our homer caps on now, say they win all their series against bad teams, including four sweeps (21-4 overall) and split wins and losses with the better teams (around 10-9). That would give them a 31-13 record the rest of the season, 94-68. This will probably be enough to at least get a wild card spot, if not win the division. Keep in mind they finished 32-12 in their last 44 in 2011.

Done rambling for now, make of it what you will.

Difference between this and last was in 2011 Cleveland gave up down the stretch and the other teams sucked.

This season, Chicago is not losing much.
