AL Playoff Thread

Updated

Tigers move within a half a game behind the wild card.

Due to Texas losing, the White Sox are now 3 games back of them for a home-field slot in the playoffs.

Updated

Not much changed today

The Tigers managed to lose ground in both the WC and ALC without even playing.

Added schedules for August

Baltimore appears to have the toughest

Updated

Detroit moves into a tie for the 2nd WC spot. They'd host the tiebreaker game if the season ended yesterday.

Tigers drop out of the WC with the loss

Something to watch for is the Seattle Mariners. They're slowly clawing their way back and could have a chance if they keep this pace. 21-12 since the ASB, and they've played well outside of one bad stretch (5-game losing streak). They still have to make up quite a bit of ground, but they're not totally out of it.

Not much changed today.

Some big series coming up during the week
NY Yankees @ Chicago
Baltimore @ Texas
LA Angels @ Boston

Updated

No changes to note

Tampa is increasing their WC lead and could be challenging the Yankees soon for the top spot in the east.

Updated

Both WC leaders win

Seattle passes Boston in the overall standings

Updated

A few changes tonight.

Texas takes the top spot in the AL. Oakland takes over the 2nd WC spot.

The Tigers are 1 game out currently.

Boston loses again and I'm probably going to move them to likely out soon. I'm sure you're enjoying that Ron.

This wild card scenario is interesting, Baltimore, Detroit, and Oakland all are tied for the 2nd WC spot and all of them have identical H2H records against each other. According to the tiebreak rules, all three teams would draw for home field.

"If the three teams have identical records against each other in the regular season, the office of the commissioner conducts a draw with the teams designated as teams A, B, and C. First, team A plays team B with team A as the home team. The following day, the winner of the that game plays team C with team C as the away team. The winner of the game on the second day advances to the playoffs."

Tigers drop out of the 2nd wild card spot. Baltimore and Oakland remain tied.

No relevant changes to the standings, although the top 3 is starting to look close with Chicago's recent winning

Heard this today....last year on this date (8-26-11) the wild card winner (Tampa Bay) was 7.5 games back in the wild card race.

Updated

No changes, Detroit moves within a half game of the 2nd wild card spot since Toronto-Baltimore was rained out and Oakland and Tampa had a scheduled day off.

Updated

Tampa loses and they fall from the 1st WC spot to completely out of it. I imagine it's going to be like this the rest of the season in the AL.

Updated

Oakland takes a 1 game lead over Baltimore for the first wild card spot. Oakland has won 11 of their last 13 (including 6 over Cleveland).

Still some distance in the WC...and surprisingly enough, the A's are a game behind the Yankees for 2nd best record in the AL. However it wouldn't mean much as the A's would still have to play in a one-game playoff to get the WC anyway.
