Article On Lions Cap Trouble

NE has 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks in this year's draft. Would you trade CJ for the 4 picks? #27, #30 and the two second round picks. Just a hypothetical.

No. All Ford has to do is give him a check for $20 Mill in SB. His cap number will be under $6 Mill for the 1st year if structured right. besides NE isnt giving up 4 picks for CJ, they're happy with the two TE's they use a WR's. Not enough balls to divide

Yeah, the way the Pats work the system, they'd fleece the Lions for CJ and all of the Lions picks while giving only a disengenuous Thank You in return.

Yes, I exaggerated there, but no one should want the Lions working any deals with the Pats. They are masters at coming out ahead big time.

Well to steal a line from Slick, you come find me when the combination of Hill + Wright gets less than 5 mill next year.

Players salaries trend up for the most part. While I agree with you Wright doesn't deserve a pay increase hes not going to come back here and potentially be a starter again for less than he made last year. Just wont happen. If he takes less it will be to go somewhere else and start fresh.

Hill on the other hand may take a slight pay reduction but not because his skill set is declining. He is one of the better back ups in the league. The only reason we might get lucky is because him and Lenehan are boys and hes very very familiar with his system. The average salary for a backup NFL QB was a shade under 2 mill last year. On the open market Hill gets his 3 mill easily.
YOU come find ME when Eric Wright signs a deal worth $3.5+ million per year. If he couldn't get it last year, how is he going to get it when the market for FAs is worse, the cap isn't going up, and his stock has dropped further? Plus, with the draft AFTER FA this year, teams won't be as desperate to fill their remaining holes in FA. Not even the Raiders are stupid enough to give Wright the money you're suggesting.

Bump

you told me to come find you ;)

I agree with you 150%. shocked when I seen the report

some teams get desperate..especially with CB's

and when you have 44 million to spend , you can get a little stupid.

Lions will have a better CB than Wright and cheaper CB in Wright on their roster opening day. Be it through the draft or guys like Bartell,Terrence Newman, Tracy Porter, Richard Marshall that Mayhew can sit and wait on for the price to go down. Mayhew letting Wright walk and being patient is very smart. Get Tulloch/Backus back and look for deals(like Ginn) and I'll be happy with free agency and ready for the draft.

Tracy Porter is the guy I've wanted all along. He's a man corner, decent size, not a great press guy but sufficient enough and would line up nicely with Houston till whomever we draft this year is ready to become what they are (be it a first or second rounder becoming a #1 or a 3rd round or later guy becoming a #2 or nickel).

Richard Marshall fits the bill for what our guys are asked to do in man coverage but hes a pretty mediocre talent. Much more of the 1 year stop gap variety unlike Porter who I wouldn't mind if we gave some years to.

Bartell I think is more of a physical zone/cover 2 guy and you can keep Newman. 30+ year old corners scare the shit outta me.

But yeah, Mayhew is showing his magic once again so far and its looking like the previous 3 years haven't been a fluke!

Marshall in Miami visiting....run on Cbs will continue

I'll throw this out.....Lions had an interest in Asante Samuel last year.....possibility of trading for him and re-structuring his deal????He makes about $8-9 Mill....maybe extend and reduce his next two years on his current deal. Probably too rich for MM
