Avril Whoring Himself

I say we should just let him walk, KVB too. A top tiered Linebacker and Safety seems to be the formula for all of the playoff teams this year.
Yes, the Giants follow that plan well. Screw D-Lineman!

you cant let KVB just walk....you take the cap hit on him anyway.

he is here for 2012.

The fact remains Avril believes he is worth Tamba Hali money. He was very happy last year when he saw those contract numbers. But what I hope he understands is he isnt worth that to us. He benefits from our DT's and sucks at run support. Si he put that out there trying to drive up his value. I have always believed he wont be back.

His numbers are good....but hes not worth a penny over 5 mil imo. Product of the system and people around him. I think hes replaceable and in the long term we need someone better there to be a complete defense.

Is it bad to want to see a team, other than the Lions, give him a gigantic contract that he never lives up to?

+1. Im with ya lol. Although I must say his one move would work well for most 3-4 teams.

Ok, besides the Giants. I'm cool with KVB one more year since we would have to take the cap it, but I believe he should get less snaps and let the younger guys shine.

I am OK with bringing him back only if it makes sense but I am with most of you. I hope he gets a huge offer and someone over pays. We should get a compensatory pick for him if he signs somewhere else.

What are the rules on comp picks? Is it the number of fa's on the team that sign else where or do they somehow take caliber into account?

Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. Not every free agent lost or signed by a team is covered by this formula, which the NFL Management Council developed.

Danny Diggler[/color]]Thanks, If the Vikings got a 4th for Ray Edwards we should get a 3rd or 4th eh?

for Avril ? I'd think a 3rd if he walked in Free Agency , he'd get a big contract and a ton pf playing time , thats if the Lions didn't sign anyone with a value like his.

I know, man...lol. I just don't understand why people want the guy to leave. Just doesn't make sense to me. I'm done beating myself up over it..lol.

Let's just hope something 'positive' comes out of all this. End scene...

you can't pay everyone bro.....especially having a #1 pick and 2 number 2 picks so close to each other you are going to run into $$$$ problems sooner or later.

restructuring is going to pay a hug part in if they can afford to bring back Cliff at the $$$$ he is looking for.

Ok, i understand that but please don't tell me that the combination of Young and Jackson gets everybody all warm and fuzzy inside. That worries me actually.
What do we do then in the draft? KVB is good for what, 1-2 more years, right? Avril is maybe gone. Do we draft a stud DE at #23? Will there even be a 'stud' DE at #23? I'm just looking at the big picture, bro, because there is nobody even worth a spit in the FA pool of DE's, is there? Maybe i overlooked someone, idk, but i don't want to start over from scratch on that DL when finally it looks like they have something there. This is actually starting to make me worry.....

Convince me, my brother!!! Make this fn anxiety go away!!

I'm with you, the Avril situation is tricky. If we let Avril walk and Lojack/Young don't pan out then within the next couple years we'll have to somehow pick up 2 new DEs. That would set our D-line back quite a bit.

I don't really know a ton about contracts but would releasing Corey Williams be an option? I think we have enough other talent at the DT position that it'd be worth releasing him if it meant helping get Avril the contract he wants. I'd think that doing so and restructuring a couple contracts would give some wiggle room.

Then again, I'm really not interested in signing any big name FAs this year... focus more on consistency and resigning the guys we have (Tulloch and Avril especially). Hopefully try to build up the secondary/Oline through the draft and maybe a couple smaller signings.

It depends on what you think the reason is that Avril is putting up numbers? For me I think its all about Suh? You put someone else next to Suh and I say he performs well. Avril next to someone who is not dominate and his numbers drop large. Just my opinion but that's what I think of the situation.
