Get StartedThey look weird if you fell asleep in 1983 and just woke up. If you've watched for the last decade or so you shouldn't be surprised
Nebraska was a once dominant program in the 90s, much like michigan. michigan, psu, and Nebraska are all very similar programs. They were once great and had legendary coaches, but the game passed them by.Well, I don't know about that. Nebraska is still a relative newcomer and Rutgers and Maryland are flippin' virgins. Who in the world expected them to come in and be more powerful than the Leaders and Best?
My first msu game as a student as well, not a great outcome. that was back when they had tommy frazier, lawrence Phillips, and Ahman green.Nebraska was a powerhouse in the 1990s. I remember going in 1994 to MSU Vs Nebraska and that was my first time seeing a dominant football team in person.
and these do look pretty weird - Maryland and Minnesota in the top half and ahead of Michigan, PSU and Iowa. Saying this doesn't look weird is taking a very short-sighted view of B1G football. It may look weird if you were born in the mid 90s and know nothing about the history or tradition of college football, let alone the B1G. And even if Michigan deserves to be 13th, it's still weird to see them there. Weird and correct are two different things...
So if you think it's weird that Michigan is 13th out of 14, you haven't been paying attention for the last 10 years? Not to mention PSU and Iowa out of the top half but Maryland and Minnie in it? That's a fairly limited view of the rankings and B1G football in general. Also, as I said above, Nebraska was a very average big 12 team when they joined the B1G. And if you're really talking about the last 10 years, you'd still have to be at least a little surprised to see MSU at the top since we were 30-31 (16-24 in the B1G) for the first 5 of those 10 years. Also, during that stretch we've been .500 or worse in B1G play for half of it and one of those years was 2012.
I guess you want to make a mountain out of a mole hill, i made a statement that based on recent memory this shouldn't be that strange. Take the helmets and history out of it and just look at records.
Of course it's odd to see michigan in 13th because there's only been a 13th place for a few weeks. in the last few years, their big ten records have been 3-5, 6-2, 6-2, 3-5, 1-7, 2-6, 6-2, 7-1, 5-3. that's not cellar dweller stuff but it's hard to say that a team that's averaged about 4 wins in conference for the last decade is shocking.
PSU hasn't been near the top of the big ten very often in those seasons, Iowa either.
The biggest surprise on that list is that OSU isn't #1, MSU and Wisconsin should be close to the top based on recent performance.
How am I making a mountain out of a molehill? Because I disagree with you? By acknowledging that this power ranking w/ michigan at the bottom, a rookie and another relative newcomber who couldn't do squat in the big 12 in the top half looks weird, I'm making a mountain out of a molehill? Granted, PSU hasn't had the success their fans expected when they joined the B1G but they've been in the top half way more than the bottom and a month ago, most people would have predicted michigan would be in the top 3 (top 4 at least) at this point in the season and they're almost dead last.
Nobody saying this is a huge surprise - if they were, then you could say they haven't been paying attention but it definitely looks weird to anyone whose knowledge of college football goes beyond the last 5 or 10 years.
hence my comment about this looking weird if you've been asleep since 1983. If you're basing this on recent history and records, it's not at all strange.
that's a pretty big misread of my post. You don't have to have missed most of the last 30 years to think this looks weird. Quite the opposite - if you don't think this looks weird then all you know about B1G and college football is what happened in the last 5 years.
let's keep arguing this though.
My original intent was to merely take a shot at the Leaders and Best lurking squad. Spartanmack and Sbee should now drop their weapons and agree that the enemy of their enemy is their friend. :bat:
