The Tigers have released Brennan Boesch.

By releasing Boesch today, Tigers owe him one-sixth of his salary if he's not claimed on waivers. Would've been one-fourth had they waited.
Dombrowski on Boesch: "I've had a half dozen clubs ask about him." Combination of factors have kept anyone from stepping forward for deal.
Jason Beck

Tigers made a mistake tendering Boesch. Thought they could trade him. By releasing him now, it's only a $383,333 mistake (1/6 of $2.3 mill).

He really didn't have even a chance to be the 25th man being injured and all. No surprise here.

good, he never understood, you don't swing at high, out of the zone fastballs.

I feel bad for the kid. He couldn't relax and trust his talent. Always seemed to be pressing or trying too hard. I'm sure Atlanta or somebody will claim him off waivers. Good luck in the future Brennan hope ya make it back to the show

they hit'em thou, Boesch can't and never learned.

His advanced stats suggest that he was no less or more effective at making contact than league average. Not enough walks, not enough LDs, not enough power, ISO was bad for a player like that. Mickey Staney's wOBA (which was bad,) was better than Boesch's in some seasons.

it had to do more than just his discipline at the plate thou, that long swing he had,He prolly had since little league, and never could adapt to cutting down his swing a little.

Ted Williams had a long swing. Babe Ruth did as well. Boesch is 6' 6". What player of that stature has ever adopted a swing like Pete Rose's or Eddie Brinkmans?

Boesch would have been good for the team if he was able to hit, granted he had no defense, but I liked his hustle, better than average speed for a 6'6 guy, and when he was on, he was solid doubles man.

I'm sure someone is going to pick him up, would not surprise me to see him in a Twins uniform, I wish him luck, but I'm disappointed at how his time ended.

And while his swing was not perfect, I don't think it was his problem either. He's just a SoCal headcase, who never learned to take a pitch, unless it was a strike.

True. He had chances and with him not able to participate in ST because of injury, this was the only course of action.

I think Im gonna have a party. Ive never liked Boesch and was continually frustrated by the team continually putting him out there to suck. Hopefully he will be picked up by a rival to help them suck more.

It was a mistake to tender him a contract, noone wanted to trade for him with a $2.3 million salary...everyone knows he sucks.

Boesch had one half of a season where he was really good, he was a rookie. After that he's been a blelow average major league player at the plate except for a couple hot weeks here or there.

Boesch always seemed to appear sullen and churlish, maybe if he gets picked up by another ballclub, their manager and coaching staff might be able to reach him in a way that Leyland and McClendon were unable to.

Roster spot for Nick C. maybe?

As far as BB, just a guess but I say Cleveland..

Re: Nick C. That's a possibility, although playing everyday would help more at his young age.
as for indians, they have 3 center fielders in the outfield. Boesch as a backup would be quite a defensive letdown/nightmare for francona.

Wherever Boesch lands, I am waiting to see if he decides to become less stubborn regarding his approach to batting; one handed long vicious swing, sucker for slop inside corner and further in.
Lots of discussion back when Granderson was traded to new york, short time later we find out that yankees' batting coach kevin long has Granderson hold his hands back a bit, less load/movement and split second quicker. 2 years of 40 plus homers. (being on peds is another discussion).
if Boesch turns into a first half hitter year round, well then.....just more about legendary lloyd. But I do think, going on a few stories later last season that Boesch was stubborn, not so much as jeff larish aka statue/stance, but stubborn, and even after Toby harrah came aboard.
