Boesch is released + signs with new york

You think nobody wants him, wait 5 days and see what happens. And again, he's still better than a few options were considering *cough don kelly cough*.

I disagree. Kelley can play multiple positions. Boesch cannot.

Well, every team needs a good utility player like a Don Kelley. He'll find a way to make more than 1 contribution this season.

We have a bunch of Don Kelly's which is the problem. We have utility guy who can play the MIF, we have a utility guy who can play the OF - we have too much of the same.

Why can't we get a bench guy, say Dave Bergman, who can hit a little bit and can get hot for a month. Not players who are .220 hitters that are average at best in the field.

If its possible, Don Kelly is overrated.

By this logic Kelly is more valuable than Fielder. He can only play one position also.

Seriously, Don Kellys defensive skills are in decline and he can barely hit his weight, sucking at 6 positions does not necessarily trump sucking only at 2.

Dave Bergman is WAY too old! He probably couldn't hit his age!

Boesch's first ST game as a Yankee: 0 fer 3, 2 groundouts and a K. Dunno if backwards, but would hazard a guess that he swung. (edit yep, but the Phils catcher dropped the ball & had to throw to 1st) Replaced late in the game defensively in RF. Yanks were SHO by the Phillies 7-0.

I prefer a guy like BB to come off the bench and pinch hit then Don freaking Kelly.. Tired of the Don Kelly types as part of out bench with no speed and no pop in the bat... Glad he can play all of the field but i do not see many pinch hit 2 run jacks coming off his bat...

The odds that BB has a pinch hit HR are slim to none. Add in the fact that he can't play defense = no value.

And you just pull this out of your ass and state it like fact?

And if he had no value, why did he get grabbed the second he hit FA? By a playoff caliber team no less? So you honestly think if Kelly was released today he would get signed?

How many pinch hit HRs has BB hit in his MLB career?

0 in the whole 19 plate attempts as a pinch hitter.

Great fucking analysis, I'll have to start calling you Keith Law from now on.

P.S. Miguel Cabrera has never hit a PH home run either. I'm interested to hear your thoughts. /sarcasm

As of right now I don't want BB PH late, regardless what team. If he's their option late in the game, the teams in trouble.

Brennan went 2 for 3 (both singles) w/a SB and sacfly for the Yankees for their 11-9 St.Paddy's Day win over the Pirates. He played RF, but might wind up playing 1B and DH for NY later in the first half of the season, especially if Teixeira is on the DL for longer than projected, and since Boesch is bound to make some fielding errors in the OF sooner or later. Yankees likely are hoping for him to produce consistently on offense moreso than on defense, since they can likely mitigate his less than stellar glovework better than his all too frequently ice-cold bat.

If Kevin Long, the Yankees' hitting coach, is able to help the somewhat belligerent Boesch who might have finally realized that he is thisclose to becoming an "ex" major-leaguer, to make his long uppercut swing more level/compact and convince/teach him to be more selective and patient @ the plate, which is what many Yankees hitters are known to do, such as stepping out of the box more often and fouling off pitches w/ a 2 strike count, as much as possible, then maybe Brennan can/will become a more polished and complete hitter.

Boesch's line for today vs Philly: 0 fer 3 w/2 IF groundouts and a flyout...now has a .200 BA.
