Did Barry Bonds lose votes in the MVP voting because of his defense? Miguel should win this in a runaway.

This is not really a fair question.
Bonds did not have anyone really close enough offensively to factor in defense, lets not lose sight of the fact that the AL MVP this year is very close, this is not one of those years where the guy who will win is super obvious.
And while were on the subject, players don't win Gold Gloves based solely on defense either, the players overall contribution is always accounted for.
As much as I hate the Red Sox Jacoby Ellsbury last year put up better overall numbers then Trout has this year from the leadoff slot. Oh yeah AND he is better defensively then Trout. But rightfully so he wasn't the MVP last year simply because Verlander had a better year and MADE the playoffs. Same should be said this year but unfortunately this whole Cabrera vs Trout for MVP has basically become Old School vs Sabermetrics and the emphasis being placed on WAR instead of actually whom is more valuable to their team. This is just wrong.
Trouts numbers are far superior to Ellsbury.
He has a 24 point advantage in wRC+, that's massive.
And Ellsbury being better defensively is debateable.
