Cabrera vs Trout

Cabrera now has 203 H, 40 2B, 44 HR, 137 RBI. Numbers had been reached 3 times in history, twice by Gehrig and once by Ruth.

i REALLY hope so. i also hope trout gets mauled by the rally monkey.

I will be happy to see the type of year he has next year when pitchers will have a year of info on him. I usually never wish to see a player struggle but there is just to much hype on this kid who doesn't even have a full year of service in the big leagues. Has he had a great year? Yeah he has but for people to be saying he should be MVP over the 1st possible Triple Crown winner in 45 years when honestly in today's day and age it unheard of.

An interesting fact I heard on MLB earlier was comparing Carl Yastrzemski's Triple Crown in '67 to Miggy this year and the differences. Yastrzemski faced I believe it was said 120 something pitchers that year. Miggy after tonight's game has faced 213 different pitchers this season.

Does Cabby get a day off either of the next two days since he hasn't had a rest day in a while? And would a day off help or hurt his triple crown chances?

Miguel 213 pitchers faced
Yaz 123 pitchers face

Per Harold Reynolds on the MLB network.. The stats were as of a few days ago according to him..

Thank you I knew he said 120 something but didn't catch the exact number. :)

Amazing really when you think about it with today's day and age of facing these bullpen's type arms that most teams can throw out there.

Also there are more teams and they have interleague play.

A 20 year old having an OPS+ of at least 165 over a full season is far more rare than a TC winner.

Should we award the MVP based on the rarity of one's stats, or the value of their play?

on the day that the Tigers clinched the pennant, Miggy goes 4-5 and leaves the building, along with a Triple Crown and I think the MVP is his easily.

On the same day Trout went 4-5 with a 2B, 3B, 2R and 3RBI off of King Felix. He is the first MLB player to ever have 4 hits and 2 extra base hits off of Felix.

and statistically speaking Felix had one of the worst outings of his career.

I don't think so. Maybe he leaves early during Wednesday's game but he likes to play and play a lot.

He'll play. Miggy says he wants to play 3rd both days. He plays everyday all the time. Plus they get 2 full days off before Saturday's game.

Probably had something to do with Trout scoring 2 runs and driving in 3.

I think it had more to do with Felix bwing out of gas. He gave up 12 hits in five and a third. Trout did damage for sure, im just saying it didnt look like typical felix out there.

Yeah but age shouldn't be a factor in anything.

Why can't they both win the MVP... Wasn't there a tie way back in the day? Now i think MC should win it because I think stolen bases are way over valued nowadays... But a tie would be good...

Just got back feom the ms angels game. Trout one for five I beleive, with a few ks. His one hit was a swinging bunt, damn that kid is fast. Helluva a year for him but in my opinion Miguel has done more for his team and deserves the mvp.

Honestly the hype is just blown way out of proportion with this kid just because he is 20 years old. If he talented? Heck yeah! But is he deserving of MVP honors over a possible 1st TC winner in 45 years? No I don't believe so. So much emphasis is being placed on WAR this year. Lets not forget there was a player that had just as impressive of year as Trout is having this year when you factor in Defense and Stolen Bases.

As much as I hate the Red Sox Jacoby Ellsbury last year put up better overall numbers then Trout has this year from the leadoff slot. Oh yeah AND he is better defensively then Trout. But rightfully so he wasn't the MVP last year simply because Verlander had a better year and MADE the playoffs. Same should be said this year but unfortunately this whole Cabrera vs Trout for MVP has basically become Old School vs Sabermetrics and the emphasis being placed on WAR instead of actually whom is more valuable to their team.

I honestly believe Cabrera SHOULD win the MVP for the way he has helped CARRY the Tigers this year because without him we would probably finish in the bottom of our division yet without Trout the Angels still would have one of the best lineups in all of baseball. There has been all this talk of over-valuing RBI's simply because its a factor of whom you have hitting in front of you YET there is being so much emphasis being placed on Runs Scored being one of the lead factors for Trout this year yet wouldn't that have the same value as RBI's considering you would need great batters behind you to knock you in? Oh yeah lets not forget Miggy is 2nd in MLB in runs scored as well yet no talk about that.

Bottom line is I have this feeling in my gut (and I hope I am wrong) but I just have that feeling Trout is going to squeak out and win the MVP because of the historic vs sabermetrics (new age stats) and quite honestly as a baseball history junkie I would consider that an insult to the game of baseball and Miguel Cabrera.
