Does anyone care anymore? What Stafford did the past few years is irrelevant to next season. Can't we all just move on?

Get StartedStupid butterfly.
12 of the 19 picks were on Stafford. Some of those 12 were in wins though.
2011 10 picks in 4 losses. 6 in wins.
2013 10 picks in 4 losses. 9 in wins.
10-6 vs 7-9. 12 less turnovers forced in 2013 (22 compared to 34), 8 more fumbles lost in 2013(7 in 2011 compared to 15), drop rate 9% in 2013 compared to 6% in 2011.
Stafford did exactly what he did in 2011. You all are just too dumb to see that.

This is exactly your problem. You're only looking at the stats. There aren't stats for footwork. Footwork is something you observe by watching the game. And as far as I'm aware of there aren't stats for quality passes (hitting your receiver accurately with a pass on his upper body). Including me, I think most of us have said that the players catching the ball have had their problems. But that doesn't mean Stafford is playing at the same level as he did in 2011.

I hope he plays at least exactly the same. Healthy weapons, better drop rate, 8 less fumbles and more defensive turnovers and he's an elite 40 TD QB again, low 60s at least.
But with Caldwell I want mid 60 comp %
4 years of average and one year of very good. My guess is he falls somewhere between average and very good.
2011 and 2013 were elite (just didn't have the team support). 2009 rookie, 2010 played well but only played 3 games. 2012 was even less support from the team (turnovers, rushing, defense wise) but played average.
I don't know why I keep taking the bait...
If we assume that Stafford was the same in '13 as he was in '11, the difference is the drop rate. That is a 3% variance.
If the drop rate was 6% instead of 9% in '13, here are his numbers... I'm not rounding, so there are decimals.
He would have had a 61.5% completion percentage rather than 58.5%
389.9 Comp 634 Att 4886.88 Yds 30.48 TD and 19.96 INT.
His numbers in '11 were better, with the exception of Yards per attempt (7.7 adjusted compared to 7.6)
If we adjust his '13 numbers to equal his attempts for '11 (663 in '11, 634 in '13) and adjust for the 3% decrease in drops, his yardage goes up to 5110, which is great. But his TDs are still only 31.87 and his INTs are 20.87.
To say that he did exactly this year what he did in 2011 is false and betrays bias on your part. (shocking) He had a 5% better completion percentage in '11, and threw 41 TDs. The INTs don't concern me as much as most. In '11, which was the best version of him we've seen, he still threw 17 picks. He's a gunslinger though, with a huge amount of confidence, so he will try throws that less physically gifted QBs wouldn't dream of, and that will cause turnovers.
His play has regressed in the last two years. It is obvious to most rational people that his footwork is poor. It is also obvious that he is immensly talented and has a bright future. I think this story has a happy ending, but stop trying to make him something he isn't.... yet.
3% drop rate is one thing. He had all his weapons in 2011 other than Best compared to 2013 (Burelson 7 games, solid 3rd WR all year, Pettigrew 2, Calvin 2+). There is your other 2%. 12 less passing TDs..hmmm 12 less turnovers forced by the defense, 8 more fumbles from others takes away opportunities. 20 of them.
You are not taking everything into context.
Stafford was elite in 2011 and elite in 2013 other than 4 games each season.
3rd in passing yards, 6th in TDs(you act like 29 is something to scoff at), 7th in 3rd down conversion, truly a solid 62-63% completion(drop rate and injuries to weapons) and without the aid of turnovers(only 22) compared to alot of QBsplus 8 drives stalled from fumbles.
Stafford is elite.
11th in yards per attempt
19th in passer rating
6th in INTs
30th in completion percentage!!!
Injuries to WRs and poor drop rate caused all that. 12 picks were his fault of 19.
10 ints cost them 4 games. 7 ints cost the Saints 4 games by Brees.

we can say the same thing about a lot of his yards and TDs. They weren't because of him....the players catching the ball did all of the work.
He was just an average QB this year. Stop making excuses!! Great QBs will overcome similar adversity. Stafford is not a great QB. He is slightly above average with potential becasue of his age.
Listen, you seem like you really love this team and this player. And I dig that about you. But he wasn't elite in '13. And to keep saying that he is kinda makes you seem like a loon.
The funny thing is, you are essentially the same as the really negative posters. Most people here look at your posts and shake their heads.
I'm informed on everything Lions and the context of every Lions situation. Shaking your heads at my posts, makes me shake my head. It makes me sad that the Lions fan base can be so misinformed where they just generically blame the QB. Football is complex and I dig deeper.
